Today, 28th September, marked the commencement of a week long Entrepreneurship Training for the female inmates at the Mile 2 Central Prison, organised through a partnership between Jollof Care Center and The Gambia Chamber of Commerce & Industry - GCCI.

Following the successful completion of the same training for ex-inmates, we are pleased to continue this initiative by equipping female inmates with practical entrepreneurial knowledge and skills that can support their rehabilitation and prepare them for meaningful reintegration into society.

The opening ceremony was graced by the Director General of The Gambia Prison Service, Mr. Ansumana Manneh; Deputy CEO of GCCI, Mr. Baboucarr Saho; CEO and Founder of Jollof Care Center, Isatou Jallow; and the trainer, Abdoulie D Bah.

We are sincerely grateful to the GCCI, The Gambia Prison Service and everyone who have contributed to this initiative.

One skill can open a door and One opportunity can change a future 💪🏽.

Yesterday, 5th September, we had the pleasure of celebrating the birthdays of our incarcerated sisters at the the Mile 2 Central Prison whose birthdays fell between January to date.

Although we would have loved to celebrate each birthday on time, our busy schedules meant that we had to wait until now. But as they say, better late than never 😃!

It was more than just a birthday celebration. It was a moment to remind these women that they are remembered, valued, celebrated and loved 💕. A prison sentence may temporarily take away one's freedom, but it should never take away hope, dignity or the feeling of being cared for.

There were smiles, laughter, prayers, birthday wishes and, most importantly, moments of genuine connection 🎉🎂❤️.

We believe that rehabilitation is not only about skills and opportunities; it is also about restoring dignity, building confidence and reminding people of their worth.

Our past does not have to define our future because there is always room for hope, growth and a new beginning.

A special thank you to everyone who continue to support our mission of rehabilitation, reintegration and restoring hope to prisoners and ex-prisoners; most especially the Management of the Gambia Prison Sevice for giving us the opportunity.

Immense gratitude to our dear sister. Mrs. Njillan Senghore for coming over despite her busy Saturday schedules and the continuous support 🙏🏽❤️.

Today, 24th August, marks the beginning of a one-week Entrepreneurship Training program aimed at equipping inmates and ex-inmates with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to create sustainable livelihoods and successfully reintegrate into society.

The training is being implemented through a partnership between our Foundation and the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI). It is being held at the GCCI Head Office.

A total of 40 participants are taking part in the programme, which includes 20 ex-inmates and returnees and 20 inmates (to be held at Mile 2). The training will run for one week for each group.

Entrepreneurship can be a powerful pathway to economic independence, dignity and a fresh start. By providing participants with practical entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, we hope to support them in turning their ideas and talents into viable income-generating opportunities.

We are deeply grateful to the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) for partnering with us in this important initiative and for investing in opportunities that contribute to rehabilitation, reintegration and safer, stronger communities.

This is more than a training program, it is an investment in second chances, self-reliance and opportunity.

The Tye and Dye/Batik (Level 2) training for the female inmates at Mile 2 Central Prison commenced last week Thursday 11th June. This intensive training program will run for three months and forms part of our ongoing efforts to empower incarcerated women with practical and marketable skills that can positively transform their lives. These trainings that we offer are part of our mental health activities and they are different from the official trainings offered by The Gambia Prison Service together with their training partner.

Building on the knowledge and experience gained during the first level of training, participants will now advance their skills in Tie and Dye/Batik production, learning more sophisticated techniques and product development methods. The ultimate objective is to establish a sustainable revenue-generating venture that will enable the women to earn an income, build self-confidence and better prepare for successful reintegration into society upon their release.

The training is generously sponsored by the SheTrades Gambia Hub under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) and is being expertly facilitated by the Bakoteh Production and Innovation Center. Their commitment to supporting women's economic empowerment and social inclusion is making a meaningful difference in the lives of these women.

At the heart of rehabilitation is the belief that every individual deserves an opportunity to learn, grow and contribute positively to society. Through initiatives such as this, we continue to create pathways for personal development, economic independence, and renewed hope.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Director General of the GPS, Mr. Ansumana Manneh, for his unwavering support and for providing the opportunity to implement this important initiative within the prison system. We also extend our sincere appreciation to all prison officers and staff whose cooperation and dedication continue to contribute to the success of rehabilitation programs at Mile 2 Central Prison.

Together, we are investing in skills, restoring dignity and creating opportunities for a brighter future.

Today was truly a memorable and heartwarming day at Mile 2 Central Prison as the Foundation partnered again with Gastronomie Gambia in association with the Association of Chefs, under the leadership of Chef Bojang, in The Gambia for the Eid-ul Adha (Tobaski) cooking activity using the prison’s newly built kitchen.

The initiative brought smiles, hope and a sense of togetherness to the inmates as delicious meals were prepared and shared in an atmosphere filled with compassion and humanity.

The celebration continued with electrifying performances from talented Gambian artists - Barhama Cham , Prvblemo and Nyancho aka Apakachy, who entertained and uplifted the inmates through music and positive vibes. They were equally entertained by the inmates who showed their talents through freestyling. Immense thank to Njundu Badjie Sorra for helping with the entertainment segment, as always.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Director General of Prison Services, Mr. Ansumana Manneh, for the construction of this beautiful kitchen facility, which will go a long way in improving the welfare and rehabilitation process of inmates. Your support and commitment to reform and rehabilitation are highly appreciated.

Yesterday was truly special as we spent Workers Day (May Day) with the amazing female inmates.

The day was filled with warmth, laughter and togetherness. They cooked a delicious pot of egusi soup, which we all enjoyed as a symbol of unity and shared experience.

Later, the atmosphere came alive with fun and excitement as we organized various sporting activities, including tug of war, musical chairs and the ever-entertaining potato race. The joy, teamwork and energy displayed were simply inspiring! 😀

Moments like these remind us of the importance of connection, empowerment and creating spaces where everyone can feel valued and included.

Immense gratitude to the The Gambia Prison Service for once again giving us the opportunity to do this event with the female inmates.

We had the pleasure of having Mrs. Mariama Saho, Co-Proprietress of Penmar Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation clinic, as a guest on Thursday 30th April, during one of our mental health sessions with the female inmates.

She discussed the importance of maintaining hygiene; frequent exercising among other vital stuff. She also donated some reusable sanitary pads/ underwear to the female inmates.
