At Fajara Skills Development Center, EU YEP – Tourism and Creative Industries is supporting young people through training in hairdressing and beauty.

Across The Gambia, the project is investing in skills development to support employment and entrepreneurship, while helping strengthen the services and talent base of The Gambia’s tourism and creative industries.

From classroom to the field.

This week, we visited the EU YEP - Tourism and Creative Industries-funded trainees at Sahel Films Academy as they continue their training in digital communications.

They are learning new skills, putting them into practice and gaining experience through hands-on work.

Skills development can help young people access better jobs and build sustainable livelihoods, yet many face limited opportunities to gain recognised skills. Ousman Ebrahim Touray was one of them.

Through the EU Youth Empowerment Project – Tourism and Creative Industries, funded by the European Union in The Gambia, he received training in arts and crafts at Gaye Njorro Skills Academy.

Today, Ebrahim is building the skills and confidence to pursue his dream of becoming a professional artist.

Did you know? 🤔

The Wassu Stone Circles in The Gambia date back centuries, with archaeological evidence dating the monuments to between the 10th and early 14th centuries.

The site is part of the Stone Circles of Senegambia, which was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006.

Through the EU YEP – Tourism and Creative Industries, critical infrastructure upgrades will be supported at the site to improve its protection, management and visitor experience.
