Yesterday, the Activista Ghana - Yendi Chapter joined Yendi Youth Parliament for an engaging radio discussion on the growing issue of harmful substance abuse in Yendi, as part of the โ€œZero Tolerance for Harmful Substance in Yendiโ€ campaign. ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

The discussion created an important platform to examine: โœ… The causes of substance abuse among youth
โœ… Its effects on individuals, families, and the community
โœ… The collective role of parents, institutions, leaders, and young people in addressing the issue

As young advocates, we believe that tackling substance abuse requires not only awareness, but also community action, support systems, and continuous engagement.

We appreciate YEFL-Ghana and the E4L Program Ghana for supporting youth-led advocacy and community dialogue.
Together, we can build a safer and healthier future for the youth of Yendi. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

Ghana Water LTD, Northern Region, wishes to inform residents of Yendi and its environs of the installation of two (2) new Low Lift Pumps at the Yendi Intake point from Thursday, March 26 to Sunday, March 29, 2026. This critical infrastructure upgrade will significantly improve water production capacity and ensure more reliable water supply to the area.

To facilitate the installation works, there will be a complete shutdown of water supply from Wednesday, March 25 to Sunday, March 29, 2026.

Water supply is expected to resume from Monday, March 30, 2026, with improved flow and pressure following the successful installation of the new pumps.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this temporary shutdown may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to improve water supply infrastructure in the Region.

Yesterday, the Yendi Youth Parliament brought together traditional leaders, security agencies, youth groups, CSOs and key stakeholders to have one honest conversation: How do we tackle substance abuse among our young people in Yendi? The reality is clear. Substance abuse is becoming a growing concern in our communities, and it requires all of us to act, together.

With support from YEFL-Ghana under the E4L Program Ghana, this co-creation session created a space for dialogue, reflection, and most importantly, solutions to the growing substance abuse among young people in the municipality and the role of everyone in the fight.

We were honored to have contributions from stakeholders including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, N-yab Bindana on behalf of N-dan Yaa-Naa, the president officer of Yendi Municipal Assembly, National Commission for Civic Education, the Yendi Concerned Citizens and youth groups, all sharing ideas and commitments to collective action.

Together, we developed practical steps to guide an advocacy action plan aimed at addressing substance abuse in Yendi.
This engagement marks a significant step toward building a united front against substance abuse in Yendi.

The Yendi Youth Parliament remains committed to ensuring that the outcomes of this dialogue are translated into meaningful and sustained action.

This morning, the leadership of the Yendi Youth Parliament and Faako Youth paid a courtesy visit to the palace of Naa Yab Kugu Naa to register our concern over the withdrawal of the special operations team (Black Maria) deployed by the Ghana Police Service from the Northern Region.

During the engagement, we appealed to Naa Yab to use his influence and collaborate with the Overlord of Dagbon, N-dan Yaa-Naa, and other authorities to help ensure the return of the Black Maria team and to safeguard the gains made in restoring peace, security, and sanity, as well as curbing the persistent illicit drug activities across the region.

Naa Yab Kugu Naa expressed his disappointment in the resistance the operations team faced from the same people of the very communities they were working to protect. He also applauded the youth across the region for peacefully speaking up to protect the calm and safety that the operations have helped restore in the region.

He assured us that the matter will be discussed with the appropriate authorities and pledged to support efforts that will either see the return of the team or the deployment of another security arrangement to sustain the progress made.

The Yendi Youth Parliament remains committed to ensuring peace, safety, and the protection of our communities for the benefit of present and future generations.

The safety of our communities and the future of our youth must never be compromised by hidden interests.

The special operations team deployed by the Ghana Police Service has helped reduce crime and drug activities in Tamale and across the Northern Region.

The Yendi Youth Parliament on behalf of the entire young people in Yendi stands firmly against the removal of the Black Maria from the Northern Region.

A few months ago, the Yendi Youth Parliament drew your attention to the unsafe learning conditions at Nurul Saedia Islamic School, where pupils were studying in a damaged and dangerous classroom block.

Today, we are pleased to share that the Yendi Municipal Assembly has commenced the construction of 2-Unit KG classroom block with an office and store. The Assembly will also supply hexagon tables,
plastic chairs for pupils, tables and chairs for staff, and 3 steel cabinets for learning materials.

As part of our commitment to accountability and inclusive governance, a team led by the speaker of the Yendi Youth Parliament paid a monitoring visit to the school to observe progress and ensure that work is on track.

We believe youth engagement does not end at advocacy. It includes follow-up, constructive engagement, and partnership with duty bearers to ensure promises translate into results.

We commend the Yendi Municipal Assembly for responding to the needs of the children of Kuga and we remain committed to monitoring progress until the project is fully completed.

Safe learning environments are not a privilege. They are a right every child must enjoy ๐Ÿ˜Š
