The Secretary General of the Ghana Red Cross Society "official" Dr. Eric Gregory Kwatia together with the National Disaster Manager and Head of Programs Management, Mr. Jeremiah Afako, paid a working visit to the demo farm of the Green Woman Project in Wa, Upper West Region.

The visit highlighted GRCS’ commitment to Humanity, Voluntary Service and Community Resilience, as the delegation interacted with volunteers and witnessed first-hand the positive impact of their efforts on local livelihoods, women empowerment, climate change and environmental sustainability.

The Secretary General commended the volunteers for their dedication, describing their work as highly commendable, and emphasized the need for closer collaboration so that similar community-based models can be replicated in other parts of the country to strengthen humanitarian and development outcomes.

The visit concluded with a ceremonial tree planting exercise, symbolizing the Society’s continued commitment to environmental protection and sustainable community development.

The Newly appointed Secretary General of Ghana Red Cross Society "official" (GRCS) Dr. Eric Gregory Kwatia has officially began his nationwide familiarisation tour in the Upper West Region, accompanied by Mr. Jeremiah Afako National Disaster Manager and Head of Program Management, GRCS.

The delegation was warmly received by the Regional executive Committee of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Upper West Region, at the Regional Office in Wa, where fruitful discussions were held on strengthening humanitarian action in the region.

The Secretary General shared his vision for the development of the Ghana Red Cross Society across the country.
He emphasized the need for the executive Committee to work deliberately towards empowering volunteers, who remain the heart of our humanitarian mission.

During a separate engagement with volunteers of the region, the Secretary General further outlined his vision, with key focus on:

✓Improving Red Cross visibility
✓ Expanding the volunteer base
✓ Empowering and motivating volunteers
✓Strengthening the role of the Red Cross in community safety and security

He also reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with volunteers at all levels of the Society to advance the humanitarian mandate of the Ghana Red Cross.

Volunteers expressed their appreciation for the visit and pledged their commitment to work diligently to uplift humanitarian development across the Upper West Region and beyond.

Together, we remain united in humanity and committed to serving communities without discrimination.

On 5th February 2026, volunteers of the Ghana Red Cross Society -Upper West Region, led by our Acting Regional Manager, Mr. Issahaque Abdul Rauf, visited the demo farm of Green Woman Project. A Youth-Led Action Project is currently being implemented.

The visit and training offered an immersive and practical learning experience as volunteers were empowered in Communication, Agriclimatepreneurship and First Aid. building real skills for real humanitarian impact.

In his welcome address, Mr. Issahaque Abdul Rauf urged volunteers to take the training seriously and make the most of the opportunity.

The Regional Youth Representative, Mr. Bang-bieu Musah Umar, encouraged volunteers to remain active and committed, emphasizing that this is a truly youth-led initiative.

The National Youth President, Mr. Abudi Razak, ( Govnor Razak ) highlighted that the focus of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies --is now on localization, and called on young people to embrace this opportunity to drive community-based humanitarian development.
This impactful initiative reflects his vision of inspiring youth-driven solutions for resilient communities.

Mr. Abdul Wahab Kanyie, also led an engaging session on Managing Communication in GRCS, refreshing volunteers on effective communication and the origin of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

Through the Green Woman Project, volunteers were introduced to an innovative initiative championing climate action, clean water, women empowerment, youth engagement, green energy and sustainable agriculture.

The agriculture skills training led by Mr Abdul-Wahab Kanyie focused on building climate-smart farmers, promoting environmental sustainability and empowering volunteers with agriclimatepreneurship skills for all-year-round vegetable farming.

Mr. Abudi Suleman delivered a practical and life-saving First Aid session, covering the does and don’ts of a first aider, accident scene management, bleeding control, chocking, drawing and the care of unconscious casualties.

The programme was officially closed with appreciation and motivating remarks from the Acting Regional Manager, who thanked all volunteers for their dedication and active participation.

Together, we are strengthening youth leadership and building skills for a resilient and sustainable humanitarian future. 💪

The Ghana Red Cross Society -Upper West Region was honoured to participate in the launching ceremony of the Shea park Hub Project of the "Shea Land of Hope" in the Upper West Region, hosted by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and officiated by H.E. the President of the Republic of Ghana at the Wa Naa’s Palace on Saturday, 31st January 2026.

This important milestone represents a bold step towards local economic development, women empowerment and sustainable livelihoods in the Upper West Region. We are proud to stand with partners and stakeholders in supporting initiatives that strengthen communities and create lasting impact.

The Ghana Red Cross Society -Upper West Region participated in the clean-up exercise organized by the SRC of Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University Wa on 16th January 2026. This engagement was more than sanitation it was a powerful demonstration of our unwavering commitment to environmental cleanliness, protection, and community well-being.

Beyond the exercise, the Acting Regional Manager held a diplomatic and forward-looking discussion with the SRC leadership on the establishment of a Red Cross School Link within the university, aimed at ensuring impactful knowledge sharing, youth engagement, and strengthened humanitarian action on campus.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all volunteers who turned up. Together, we continue to build a cleaner environment and a more humanitarian society.

The Ghana Red Cross Society -Upper West Region closed the year in grand style with an unforgettable End-of-Year Get-Together. This was more than a social gathering; it was a powerful soul well a moment of reflection, appreciation, and celebration of the unwavering commitment, dedication, hard work, and voluntary service of our incredible volunteers toward humanitarian action across the region.

The event was graced by distinguished personalities, including the Upper West Regional Minister (and Regional Patron of GRCS), the State Attorney (U/W/R), the National President of the Ghana Red Cross Society, members of the Regional Council, and volunteers drawn from all corners of the region.

The Regional Chairperson warmly welcomed participants, setting the tone for an inspiring evening, while the Acting Regional Manager presented a comprehensive overview of activities successfully carried out throughout the year showcasing impact, resilience, and service to humanity.

In his address, the Regional Minister highlighted key areas where the Red Cross continues to support society and reaffirmed his commitment as Regional Patron to strengthening humanitarian efforts in the Upper West Region. The National President of GRCS applauded volunteers for their extraordinary service, commended the Regional Minister for his support, and emphasized the importance of building strong partnerships nationwide.

The night reached a touching climax as certificates of recognition were presented to volunteers honoring their selfless contributions and reminding us all that humanity lives through service.

To every volunteer: you are the heartbeat of the Red Cross. Thank you for all you do. 🙏
