The BECE results have been released. The students have gone to check to know their statuses, some have no hope of furthering their education not because they didn't pass but because there is no financial support. Others are in anticipation of what course/programme to read and which school would be appropriate for the courses chosen.

Majority of our JHS graduates today, have not received any career guidance so they feel lost. Dear teachers and parents, let's help these young people fund their bearing so they can 'fit' into the society.

Many children in remote areas face this challenge you see in the photos.
This crashes their confidence and they are unable to mingle with classmates during play time, for the fear of being mocked or teased or even seeing their uniform being tattered beyond stitches so they isolate themselves.

Others also find it difficult to raise their arms in class in response to a question for same reasons; torn armpits so they withhold their answers.

The Portia Dzilah Foundation through the help of benevolent donors has supplied school uniforms to over 100 learners in rural communities and continues to provide basic educational needs.

The Portia Dzilah Foundation donated exercise books, pencils and erasers to needy learners in rural areas.
This is part of the mission to promise quality education and also as a quest to bridge the gap between education in rural and urban communities.

28th of May, every year is for the commemoration of MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY. On this particular day, I engage young girls to educate them on menstrual health and several other related topics.

This year's event brought tears to my eyes as I was told of the story of one of the girls who still uses a piece of fabric because her grandmother whom she lives with, cannot afford sanitary pads.
She soiled her school uniform and had to go home because the cloth which was to soak the blood flow, could no longer perform its duty. 😔

Some of these girls then find themselves at the mercy of 'okada' riders who later make them young mothers. 😢

This is the challenge of many other girls in rural communities
The Portia Dzilah Foundation has therefore made it a yearly agenda to supply sanitary pads to these teenage girls and also provide s*x education, empower them and give them hope for the future.

This agenda is sponsored by benevolent Facebook friends and followers of Dzilah Dzifa Portia, a dedicated and award winning teacher with over a decade experience in educating children in rural communities.

Growing up, we all have dreams and aspirations but as life would have it, not everyone gets to see these dreams become a reality.
Some people drop out of school along the way due to several reasons. Out of those who drop out, some end up learning a trade or skill whiles some others end up on the street.

Those who complete successfully 🎓 may or may not pursue higher education.
These and several other conditions are the reasons why The Portia Dzilah Foundation is here, to equip young people who seem to have lost hope in life, to acquire skills and enable them earn an honest living even if they drop out of school. Dzilah Dzifa Portia

Many children in rural communities have no idea what their future holds. No plans, no aspirations, no desire for greater achievements, no guidance nor mentorship.

They are only walking through life as it unfolds before their eyes. Most of these children in such areas have potentials, great talents and skills that need nurturing to grow.

Some lack the basic materials to make school life easier for them. Accessibility to quality education is one huge challenge for most of them, as they lack learning materials such as books (notes and exercise), pens, pencils, crayons,erasers, school bags, school uniforms, shoes, etc.

These and many others, are the reasons why The Portia Dzilah Foundation is here.

One of the many missions of The Portia Dzilah Foundation is to provide mentorship for young people, to shape their aspirations and long term plans for their lives.
As an educator who has lived and worked in rural communities for over a decade, I have a first hand experience in challenges faced by brilliant children in such communities.

Some miss great opportunities due to the lack of mentorship, guidance and counseling.
In the photos below is me, speaking at the Pakro Roman Catholic Basic school, on the topic," Relationships, Choices and Decision Making".
I had a great time and it was impactful.
