Yesterday, the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT) Ghana was invited to participate in the International Women’s Day celebration organized by GNCCI in collaboration with TradeMark Africa. The event was held at the Fiesta Royale Hotel in Accra.

Under the theme “Rights, Justice, Action for ALL Women,” the event brought together key stakeholders, industry leaders, and women entrepreneurs for insightful discussions, capacity-building sessions, and meaningful networking.

It was a great opportunity to learn, share ideas, and connect with other women and stakeholders who are actively working to create more opportunities for women in business and trade. Conversations around access to finance, digital inclusion, and leadership were especially insightful, and we are excited to carry these learnings forward in our work.

Earlier Today, the Organization of Women in International Trade Ghana, under the leadership of President Alexandra Prempeh, partnered with Amona Consults to host our first webinar focused on building businesses that can thrive for 100 years.

Our speaker, Lola Soyannwo, led an insightful session on the foundations every long-lasting business must have. She emphasized the importance of clear vision, mission, and value statements, explaining that a vision defines where a business is going, a mission clarifies why it exists, and values guide how it operates. She encouraged entrepreneurs to align their vision with their passion and to create vision boards that keep long-term goals visible and intentional.

The session also explored strategic tools such as SWOT analysis to assess strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, and PESTEL analysis to understand political, economic, social, technological, environmental, and legal factors that influence business operations. These tools help businesses track growth, stay aware of their environment, and make informed decisions.

Participants were encouraged to embrace AI as a tool to improve efficiency and service delivery, while also prioritizing certifications and professional websites as essential credibility assets in today’s business landscape. The importance of developing a business model canvas was highlighted to clearly define customers, value propositions, products, services, and revenue streams.

Lola also discussed business strategy approaches such as cross selling and omni selling, the need to track key performance indicators through proper business metrics, and the importance of data in decision making. Sustainability, compliance, ethical practices, and alignment with sustainable development goals were emphasized as critical components of long-term success.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Amona Consults for this impactful and thought-provoking session that is equipping our women with the tools to build resilient, future ready businesses.

Today, the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT) Ghana paid a courtesy visit to the Namibian High Commission and the Zambian High Commission as part of engagements ahead of its upcoming trade expedition to Namibia and Zambia, aimed at strengthening trade relations and exploring mutually beneficial opportunities for women-led businesses.

At the Namibian High Commission, discussions focused on Namibia’s key export sectors, including agriculture and agro-processing, manufacturing, cosmetics and personal care, beverages, and clothing and textiles, such as tie-and-dye batik. We also learned about Namibia’s major trade fairs held in August and explored opportunities for wholesale and bulk trade.
Our President, Madam Alexandra Prempeh, emphasized OWIT Ghana’s commitment to a win-win trade approach, highlighting what Ghanaian women-led businesses can export while also identifying sectors where Namibia has strong competitive advantage. The meeting concluded with discussions around submitting a concept note to further advance collaboration.
We were received by the Commercial Counsellor, Justina Ndahafa Katepe, and the Political and Economic Secretary, Jaqueline Hindjou.

The delegation also visited the Zambian High Commission, where His Excellency Albert Mateyo Chifita, Deputy High Commissioner, reaffirmed Zambia’s readiness for investment and trade. Key areas of interest discussed included cosmetics and personal care, particularly shea butter and black soap, as well as opportunities within manufacturing and value-added products.
Discussions further explored how OWIT Ghana can leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to expand intra-African trade, with trade fairs in Zambia typically held between July and August. Opportunities for future collaboration, including engagements with OWIT Ghana, were also highlighted.

Present at the meetings were OWIT Ghana President Madam Alexandra Prempeh, Lady Pearl, Naheema Hanson (Vice President in charge of Membership), Nana Anima Ampofo (Media), and Madam Gifty Aryitey.
