TOPIC: HIDDEN MOTIVES

Text :1 Samuel 16:7

"The LORD told Samuel, 'Don't look at his appearance or his height, for I've rejected him... Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.'"

Human judgment is limited. We often evaluate people by what we see, hear, or feel. A number of times, a pleasant smile may hide a deceitful heart, while a rough exterior may conceal a sincere and faithful spirit.

*Appearances can be misleading and deceptive, but nothing is hidden from God. He sees every thought, every motive, and every intention of the heart.

When Samuel went to anoint the next king of Israel, he was impressed by Eliab's appearance. He looked every bit like a king. Yet God corrected Samuel, teaching him (and by extension, you and I) a timeless lesson: God's choices are based on the heart, not outward appearance.

David, the overlooked shepherd boy, was God's chosen king because his heart pleased the Lord.

The story of Herod is another striking example. When the wise men arrived in Jerusalem, Herod pretended to be interested in worshipping the newborn King. He said, "Go and search diligently for the child... so that I, too, may come and worship him" (Matthew 2:8).

Herod's words sounded humble and sincere, but his heart was filled with jealousy and murder. God, who knew his true intentions, warned the wise men in a dream not to return to him, thereby protecting the infant Jesus.
What appeared to be a noble request was actually a deadly plot.

The Gibeonites also deceived Joshua by wearing worn-out clothes and carrying old bread to pretend they had come from a distant land (Joshua 9).

Israel judged by appearances and failed to seek God's counsel, resulting in a covenant they could not revoke.

These and many more examples were recorded in the Bible to remind us that we cannot depend on human perception alone. We need the Holy Spirit's guidance.

As we walk closely with God through prayer, His Word, and obedience to His instructions, He will grant discernment. He will expose hidden traps, reveals false motives, and leads us in the path of safety.

God may not always reveal every secret, but He faithfully directs those who trust Him.

Do not be captivated by appearances or persuasive words. Seek God's mind before making decisions, entering relationships, or trusting people.

The One who sees the heart is able to guide His children away from the hidden intentions of evil men.

Remember, it is wisdom to commit your ways to Him who knows the end of all things from the very beginning. (Isaiah 46:10).

TOPIC: REPENTANCE FROM DEAD WORKS

Text : Hebrews 6:1

"Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works..."

The Bible teaches us to repent from dead works. This presupposes that you have been dealing in dead works hitherto.

Dead works are actions, habits, and lifestyles that are spiritually lifeless because they are separated from God. Dead works include hypocrisy, self-righteousness, idolatry, bitterness, immorality, unforgiveness, and any empty religious activities without a genuine relationship with Christ.

These things rob us of God's life and create an environment where the enemy seeks to gain influence.

In Mark 5, the demonized man lived among the tombs—a place associated with death. This picture reminds us that unclean spirits are connected with spiritual death, bo***ge, and destruction. While the passage does not state that every dead work directly invites demonic activity, Scripture consistently shows that living in persistent sin and spiritual darkness gives the devil an opportunity to influence a person's life (Ephesians 4:27).

In Matthew 12:43-45, Jesus warned that an unclean spirit may return to a "swept" but empty house. Deliverance must therefore be followed by a life filled with God's presence. Freedom is preserved when our hearts are occupied by Christ, His Word, prayer, obedience, and fellowship with other believers.

Repentance from dead works is not merely stopping sinful behavior; it is turning to Jesus, who alone gives life. As we submit to Him daily, the Holy Spirit fills our hearts, leaving no room for the enemy to establish a foothold.

Are there any dead works the Holy Spirit is calling you to repent of today?
Are you simply avoiding sin, or are you actively filling your life with God's presence?
What practical steps can you take today to walk in spiritual life and freedom?

TOPIC: UNCLEAN SPIRITS

Text : Mark 5:6–7.

"When Jesus saw him from afar, he ran and worshipped Him. And he cried with a loud voice... 'What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?'

The story of the demon-possessed man in Mark chapter five reveals the destructive work of unclean spirits and the absolute authority of Jesus Christ over every power of darkness.

This man lived among the tombs, isolated from society, tormented day and night, and unable to free himself despite every human effort. But one encounter with Jesus changed everything.

Anyone who is under the influence of unclean spirits is no longer in control of himself.The unclean spirits seek to enslave people. The unclean spirits desire to dominate people's lives through sin, fear, addiction, occult practices, deception, and outright rebellion against God.

They bring destruction. The possessed man cut himself with stones and lived among the dead. John 10:10 says, satan comes "to steal, kill, and destroy". Unclean spirits promote self-harm, hopelessness, broken relationships, and spiritual death.

They isolate people. The man lived away from family and community. The enemy often isolates people through shame, guilt, bitterness, and fear so they will not receive help.

If you notice any of the above traits, do what the possessed man did, run to Jesus.Mark 5:6 says, When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell down in front of him.

Surrender totally to the one who is able to save you. He will surely deliver you from the grips of unclean spirits and their accompanying evil vices.

Ask the Lord to fill you with His Holy Spirit so your body will no longer a habitation for unclean spirits.( Matthew 12:43-45).

TOPIC: THE WISE AND THE SCORNER

Text : Proverbs 13:1,

" A wise son hears his father's instruction: but a scorner hears not rebuke."

The difference between the wise and the scorner is not intelligence but attitude.

God often speaks to us through His Words, the Holy Spirit, our parents, pastors, mentors, and other godly people. Infact, at times, God can speak to us through both animate and inanimate objects.

Those who desire to grow in their walk with God will not despise correction. They understand that loving rebuke is meant to shape their character, protect them from error, and lead them into maturity.

Proverbs 13:18 says, Poverty and shame are for those who ignore correction, but whoever listens to instruction gains honor.
Many people miss God's best because they become defensive whenever they are corrected.

Pride hardens the heart and shuts the door to growth. However, humility opens the heart to instruction and attracts God's grace.

Every correction received with the right attitude becomes another step toward spiritual maturity.
Jesus Christ, our master demonstrated submission to the Father's will, and He calls His followers to cultivate hearts that are willing to listen and obey.

If we desire to become more like Christ, we must remain teachable throughout our lives.

Today, ask yourself: How do I respond when I am corrected? Do I become offended, or do I prayerfully examine myself? A wise believer values correction because it produces righteousness and lasting fruit.

TOPIC: REVIVAL

Text: Psalms 85:6

Will you not revive us again: that your people may rejoice in YOU?

The LORD will always honour a heart that thirst and hunger for Him. A heart that desires and pursues personal and corporate revival, such a heart is always precious and golden before the LORD.

Many believers are simply satisfied with their programmes, and conferences. They have seen a few miracles here and there. They have seen their pastors preached powerful messages. They have seen the crowd trooping into the church and they had thought this must be revival. In fact, many ministers have referred to the church growth and gathering of a multitude, as revival.

Contrary to the above, the major factors that define whether there is revival or not are: Humility, Repentance, and Prayer. Also, it is worthy to note that revival is for believers while awakening is for unbelievers.Revival is like recovering those things that have been lost, those things that have silently slipped away from the church over the years.

In a very simple language, I will like to define revival as God showing up. Revival takes place when God decides to show up as the all in all in the midst of the church. Revival has come when no flesh can glory in God's presence. There is Revival when no sinner can comfortably sit in the midst of God's people without making a concise decision to commit to following Jesus. Revival brings back the very manifest presence of God in the midst of His people.

The LORD once announced to His people the simple steps to revival. He said, "If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.(2 Chronicles 7:14).

It is my prayer that revival will begin in your life, and family in Jesus name.

TOPIC: KNOWING GOD!-2

Text: 1 Corinthians 8:3

But if any man loves God, the same is known of him.

While it is great to know God, it is much more comforting and soothing to know that God knows you as well. It is a beautiful thing for you to know that God knows and loves you before you could love Him back.*We love him, because he first loved us. (1 John 4:19).*

The God Almighty who dwells in heaven knows your name. Once this truth is well settled in your heart, it will settle a great deal of issues in your life.

For instance, how would you feel if you know that you are well known in a very personal and loving manner by the most influential and powerful president in the world. Whosoever that might be is not our concern today. But I am trying to paint a very relatable picture of God knowing you.

Remember that God is not in any way comparable to any man on earth. God is God. God is no man. He's the potentate King and the most powerful Spirit being in heaven and on earth.

Now, the word of God is saying to you that if you love God, then you are known by Him. Though God already knew you before you received Him as your Personal Lord and Saviour, but now that you have chosen to love Him back, then He has known you more intimately.

May you receive the grace to know the love of God in a personal way, and to respond to His love, thereby accepting the fact that He knows you. And for you to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God
(Ephesians 3:19).

For instance, Gideon was a man well known by God, but he did not know how much he was known by the Almighty God. While Gideon was threshing wheat by the winepress to hide it from the Midianites, an angel of the LORD appeared unto him and said, "The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valour. (Judges 6:11-12).

You can imagine that God knew Gideon to be a mighty man of valour but he knew himself as one from a poor family, and one who is the least in his father's house. Could that be the contradictions in your life too? (Judges 6:12&15).

You must seek alignment with what God knows you to be and the label you've placed on yourself.

TOPIC: KNOWING GOD!

Text: 1 Corinthians 8:3

But if any man love God, the same is known of him.

Many believers have always wondered what knowing God looks like. Many want to know God, but they do not know how to go about it.

The scripture is very clear about what it means to know God and to be known by God. Apostle John once wrote thus, "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and every one that loves is born of God, and knows God. (1 John 4:7).

To qualify as one who knows the LORD, you must love the brethren, and love the LORD as well. This is the great commandment. And it is on these two commandments that all the law and the prophets hang on. (Matthew 22:40).

While it is commendable to sing songs about loving the LORD, the best way to show your love for the LORD is by expressing it in action.

To show your love for the LORD, you must keep His commandments. It is through obedience that you show your love for the LORD. John also says in John 14:21:
He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (John 14:21).

If you will genuinely show your love to God, then you must be a keeper of God's commandments. The commandments here are not just the ten commandments, rather, they are the "...every word of God that proceeds out of his mouth which you must live by. (Matthew 4:4).

To show your love for the LORD, you must be a keeper of His commandments.

TOPIC: CHOKED BY WORLDLY CARES

Text :Matthew 13:22.

He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

The seed that fell among thorns represents a person who receives God's Word but fails to produce lasting fruit because the Word is gradually choked by competing priorities.

Jesus identifies two major thorns: the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches.

The cares of this world include anxiety about tomorrow, family pressures, career pursuits, finances, health, and the endless demands of daily life. While these concerns are real, they become dangerous when they consume our hearts and push God to the background. Instead of casting our cares upon the Lord, we allow those cares to occupy the place that belongs to Him.

Jesus said our heavenly Father knows that we have need of all the things we are anxious and worried about.( Matthew 6:32). So, when you set your love on Him, He will sure take good care of you.

The deceitfulness of riches is equally dangerous. Wealth promises security, satisfaction, and significance, but these promises are false. Riches are not evil, but trusting in them is. When the pursuit of money becomes more important than the pursuit of God, spiritual growth begins to wither.

Many have lost their passion for prayer, Bible study, and personal time with God because they became entangled in the pursuit of earthly gain.

Notice that the plant in Jesus' parable did not die because it lacked life; it became unfruitful because it was choked. In the same way, a believer may still attend church and profess faith, yet produce no spiritual fruit because worldly concerns have crowded out devotion to Christ.

Ask yourself today : What is competing for your heart? What occupies your thoughts more than God's Word? Whatever chokes the Word today will eventually hinder your spiritual growth tomorrow.

Jesus calls us to seek first the Kingdom of God and trust Him with every other concern. When Christ remains first in our lives, the thorns lose their grip, and His Word bears abundant fruit.

Father, please search my heart and reveal every thorn that is choking your Word in my life. Help me to trust You instead of worrying, and to seek your Kingdom above worldly pursuits in Jesus name.
