We recently had an inspiring tour of the newly launched Northern AI Lab at HOPin Academy in Tamale, and it is truly a game-changer for our region!

It was incredible to see firsthand how this hub is bridging the digital divide. By focusing on foundational and applied AI research tailored to our local context—specifically in agriculture, healthcare, and education—the Lab is ensuring that Northern Ghana isn't just watching the global AI revolution from the sidelines, but actively leading it.

At Simba Ghana, we are deeply committed to data-driven advocacy and community development. We see immense possibilities for future collaboration between our two organisations! By combining our expertise in evidence-based governance and social accountability with the Northern AI Lab’s technical innovation, we can unlock new, powerful ways to serve our communities.

We look forward to exploring how we can work together to turn data into actionable impact for the people of Northern Ghana.

Kudos to the entire team at HOPin Academy for this visionary initiative!

Driving Educational Excellence Through Data and Accountability in Karaga!

Under the , Simba Ghana, in collaboration with the Karaga and Gushegu districts Education Directorates, will be publishing the Circuit/Zonal Education Performance League Table this quarter!

In line with this, our Programs Manager recently led a vital training session for School Improvement Support Unit Supervisors (SISUSs) in the Karaga District on the specialised data-gathering tool that will power the upcoming District Circuit League Table.

The training equipped the SISUSs with the precise knowledge and skills needed to collect, track, and analyse performance data across school circuits consistently and transparently.

The SISUSs warmly welcomed the League Table initiative and expressed great optimism that this will directly improve teaching, learning, and overall educational outcomes in the district.

We extend our sincere appreciation to CDD-Ghana - Ghana Center for Democratic Development and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for supporting and funding the , which continues to provide service delivery in the education sector in Karaga and Gushegu districts.

Strong education systems are built on accountability, collaboration, and evidence-based decision-making.

In collaboration with the Gushegu Municipal Assembly, under the , we held the second quarter meeting.

The meeting assessed the state of education in the municipality and identified practical solutions to improve learning outcomes.

The Municipal Education Director, Mr Lawrence, expressed concern about the poor quality of education outcomes, referencing the municipality's position in the district and regional BECE rankings.

Simba Ghana, led by Kumuriwor Bayahna Salifu presented a policy brief, highlighting key findings from our recent Citizens' Satisfaction Survey report, titled "Toward Quality Education in Gushegu Municipality, Bridging the Infrastructure Gap and Enhancing Teacher Availability".

The Policy Brief also provided insights into citizens' perceptions of education service delivery in the Municipality, and strongly recommended that "The Municipal Assembly and MEOC should launch a “No Child Learns on the Floor” Initiative. This initiative should focus on the procurement and equitable distribution of desks and chairs to the most affected schools, particularly in underserved communities".

The MCE, who is also the Chairman of the outlined plans for targeted interventions as an uptake of our recommendations. He also committed to facilitating the School Performance Appraisal Meeting (SPAM), and immediately directed the drafting of an MoU to formalise collaboration between the Municipal Assembly, the Education Directorate, traditional authorities, and Simba Ghana aimed at addressing the challenges.

We are grateful to CDD-Ghana - Ghana Center for Democratic Development and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for their continued support and funding for the .

MONDAY

“Mr Speaker, thank you very much for the opportunity to contribute to this very important Statement made by my former boss at the Microfinance and Loan Centre (MASLOC) and senior Colleague, Dr Stephen Amoah.

Mr Speaker, for all of us who have had the opportunity to sit in Economic Policy class, it is trite knowledge that the structure of Ghana’s economy is not balanced.”

That was Hon. Eric Edem Agbana stepping into the 9th Parliament. And just like that, the Ketu North MP let Ghana know the youth aren’t here to warm benches. We’re here to shift the culture. To make our voices count.

At 33, he’s one of the youngest in the House, but his résumé is already heavy:

• Former UG SRC President who made student leadership look cool

• Triple degree holder from Legon: Econ Policy, Dev Finance, plus Peace & Security

• Fellow of the African Young Leaders Fellowship, European University Institute

• Board Member, ECG and President, Nukunu Sports Academy

From lecture halls to Parliament, from volunteer projects in rural Ghana to the Education and Public Accounts Committees, Edem is proof that “too young to lead” is just vibes. His steeze is top-notch.

He’s big on youth dev, accountability, and lighting up Ketu North — literally. Peeeeep!!! .

Simba Ghana sees you, Hon. Eric Edem Agbana!

You’re showing a whole generation of youth that you don’t need permission to take your seat at the table. You just need purpose, prep, and the guts to speak up.

𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 & 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐆𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐚!

On Wednesday, June 3, the Social Accountability Team at CDD-Ghana - Ghana Center for Democratic Development held an insightful, high-level briefing in Tamale on the findings of the 2025 Ghana Cities Monitor (GCM) report for the Northern Region.

As the Implementing CSO Local Partner for the Northern Region, Simba Ghana was proud to collaborate with CDD-Ghana and co-host this crucial engagement!

The confidential briefing brought together key stakeholders from four selected city-districts:

📍 Tamale Metropolitan Assembly
📍 Sagnarigu Municipal Assembly
📍 Savelugu Municipal Assembly
📍 Gushegu Municipal Assembly

The room was packed with vital change-makers, including MMDCEs, Coordinating Directors, Planning Officers, Statisticians, representatives from decentralized agencies, and academics from the University for Development Studies - UDS.

The engagement created a powerful opportunity to dive deep into the 2025 GCM findings, analyzing what the data means for city-liveability and discussing actionable policy recommendations. It sparked dialogue, and mapped out clear action points to build sustainable, liveable, and well-governed cities across Northern Ghana.

We are thrilled to continue our partnership with CDD-Ghana to drive social accountability and sustainable urban development right here in our communities!

"We are seeing democratic backsliding and shrinking civic space in several countries."

This powerful reality check opened the National Democratic Institute-led three days symposium, where regional youth leaders gathered to consolidate the Next Gen Community of Practice, a mission dedicated to equipping youth leaders and amplifying their voice in governance in West Africa.

The charge to the youth leaders and advocates was clear: “Listen deeply, engage fully, and act as agents of change.”

Simba Ghana did exactly that! Our Executive Director, Abdul-Mumin Sofo Yumzaa made a compelling case for moving from intergenerational dialogues to intergenerational partnerships in deepening and consolidating youth participation and influence in democracy.

We believe that fixing West Africa’s democratic challenges isn't a task for one generation alone. It requires the wisdom and experience of seasoned leaders paired with the innovation, energy, and lived experiences of the youth.

True, sustainable progress happens when we build bridges, not walls, between generations.

Thank you to and West Africa Democracy Solidarity Network for creating this vital space. We are more energized than ever to push for a more inclusive, democratic future!

"We have had enough of the intergenerational dialogues. It is about time we transitioned to what I call 'intergenerational partnerships.' The question is are we factoring in the interests of the older generation in presenting our demands as youth and youth leaders? Are we addressing the question of what's in it for them?"

Abdul-Mumin Sofo Yumzaa

Our Executive Director raised these concerns, so passionately at the ongoing Next Gen West Africa Youth Regional Symposium in Abuja, Nigeria.

This week, our Executive Director, Abdul-Mumin Sofo Yumzaa is participating in the West Africa Youth Regional Symposium 2026 in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

The Next Gen Symposium brings together youth leaders, activists, reform advocates from across West Africa to discuss youth participation in democracy and governance reforms.

At the heart of our work is facilitating youth inclusion and amplifying their voices in democracy, including decision-making. This symposium is not only timely, it will impact our work in facilitating youth participation and amplifying voices.

Strengthening institutional ties for sustainable development!

Our team paid a crucial courtesy visit to the newly appointed District Coordinating Director (DCD) for the Karaga District Assembly.

Our Executive Director officially introduced the (IAA) Project, mapped out our planned activities for the year, and reviewed critical gaps identified in our recent Citizen Satisfaction Survey.

The DCD gave us a warm welcome and expressed deep appreciation for Simba Ghana's unwavering support in education and governance in the District, stating that the Assembly is wide open to strategic partnerships that accelerate district-wide development.

We look forward to deepening our ongoing collaboration with the District Assembly to institutionalise data-driven decision-making!

Special thanks to CDD-Ghana - Ghana Center for Democratic Development and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for the funding support.

Quality education extends beyond physical walls; it resides within the classroom dynamics and structural planning.

Our monitoring visits with the Ghana Education Service (GES) extended to a deep examination of pedagogy and management tools. While checking on infrastructure gaps, the joint team actively reviewed lesson plans and school management practices at schools like Tuyini Methodist and Pishigu D/A Primary.

Identifying gaps in lesson preparation allows the Directorate to step in with targeted teacher-support mechanisms and better supervision tools. Joint monitoring isn't about pointing fingers, it's about gathering concrete evidence to guide professional development and upgrade teaching quality.

Saluting all teachers and supervisors working tirelessly to level up education standards in Karaga!

Special thanks to CDD-Ghana - Ghana Center for Democratic Development and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation for the funding support of the
