Earlier this week, WOSAG welcomed the STAR-Ghana Foundation and West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) team for a monitoring and support visit under the Society Strengthening Fund.
The engagement allowed us to reflect on our progress, strengthen our Phase 2 plans and explore how our advocacy can move beyond activities to achieve lasting systems and structural change.
For WOSAG, also means supporting women and young people to lead their own economic transformation. Through our Love From the North Common Market, we promote products made by women and youth from our partner communities, connect them to wider markets and generate resources to support WOSAG’s long-term sustainability.
A big thank you to the STAR-Ghana Foundation and West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) for purchasing products from the Common Market. Your support contributes directly to women’s and young people’s livelihoods while strengthening locally led development and diversified resource mobilisation.
We are shifting power closer to communities and building solutions that can last beyond project funding.

Indeed drugs is costing more than lives.

Sierra Leone’s drug crisis is costing more than lives. It is putting the country’s human capital, social cohesion and future development at risk.

The rise of Kush and other substances among young people reveals a crisis rooted in far more than drug use. Poverty, unemployment, limited opportunities, weak regulation and gaps in rehabilitation and mental health support all form part of the picture.

In this issue paper, Zainab Kadiatu Sesay examines the drug abuse crisis in Sierra Leone and makes a compelling case for seeing it not simply as a social or public health problem, but as a development crisis.

The deeper story is worth reading.

🌍 Five days. 37 Civil Society Organisations. One shared commitment: strengthening civil society from within.
The Women Support and Activist Group (WOSAG) proudly participated in the ShiftingthePower Civil Society Strengthening Bootcamp 2026, which brought together 37 civil society organisations for five days of learning, reflection, peer exchange and collaborative problem-solving.
Each day focused on a critical area of organisational strengthening:
🔹 Governance, Leadership and Organisational Culture
🔹 Human Resources and Organisational Policies
🔹 Financial Management, Compliance and Risk
🔹 Programme Management and Resource Mobilisation
🔹 Constituency and Solidarity Building, Communications and Sustainability
Through real organisational case studies, participants examined shared challenges, explored their underlying causes and developed practical solutions grounded in experience. The Bootcamp demonstrated the power of civil society organisations learning with, and from, one another.
WOSAG’s key lessons included:
✨ Governance is the system behind organisational trust.
✨ People systems are organisational sustainability systems.
✨ Financial compliance is everyone’s responsibility.
✨ Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning is not an afterthought of resource mobilisation.
✨ Communication is how evidence becomes influence.
✨ Constituents should not only be represented, their voices must meaningfully influence organisational decisions.
WOSAG concluded the Bootcamp with a practical Organisational Strengthening Action Plan, containing immediate, medium-term and longer-term actions across all five thematic areas.
We are ready to translate these lessons into action by engaging our Board, staff, volunteers and constituents to build a stronger, more accountable and sustainable WOSAG.
💜 Strengthening WOSAG Ghana means strengthening the foundation from which women organise, lead and create lasting change.

This week, the Women Support and Activist Group (WOSAG) joins fellow civil society organisations at the the maiden edition of the Civil Society Strengthening Bootcamp 2026
Under the theme, “From Challenges to Solutions: Civil Society through Peer Learning and Collaborative Problem Solving,”

This Bootcamp is an opportunity and a space for honest reflection, shared learning and practical action. Alongside other civil society partners, WOSAG will explore how to strengthen governance and leadership, human resource systems, financial accountability, programme management, resource mobilisation, communications, constituency building and organisational sustainability.

For WOSAG, shifting power also means building a resilient, accountable and sustainable organisation, one that remains firmly rooted in the voices, priorities and aspirations of the women and communities we serve.

We look forward to exchanging experiences, learning from fellow partners and returning with practical ideas that will strengthen our systems and deepen our impact.

At WOSAG, we believe that challenging harmful gender norms and transforming perceptions of masculinity are critical to advancing gender equality and preventing violence.
The change begins with the choices we make, the behaviours we model, and the values we pass on to the next generation.
We can build a society where strength is defined by respect, leadership by responsibility, and masculinity by a commitment to equality and non-violence.

Women Support and Activist Group (WOSAG) was proud to join civil society actors, government, development partners, academia, and the private sector in important conversations on Reimagining Partnerships for Democratic Governance and Inclusive Development at the Ghana Civil Society Forum, 2026. The discussions reinforced the need for stronger collaboration, localization, accountability, and sustainable, community-led solutions to Ghana's development challenges.

We were inspired by the call for civil society to strengthen collective action, embrace inclusive partnerships, and ensure that women, young people, persons with disabilities, and local communities are recognized as key drivers of development. Building a resilient and accountable Ghana requires trust, shared responsibility, and meaningful citizen participation.

Our sincere appreciation goes to STAR-Ghana Foundation, West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), CDD-Ghana - Ghana Center for Democratic Development, Norsaac and all the partner organisations—Comic Relief, and Flora Hewlett Foundation , Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office Fondation Botnar, and all stakeholders, for convening such a timely and impactful forum. WOSAG was pleased to participate in the Civil Society Strengthening Fund (CSSF) Partners Meeting, which opened with honest and timely conversations on the future of civil society action within an increasingly complex funding environment.

The meeting provided an important platform for partners to reflect on lessons from Phase I, explore the vision of the Programme Strategy, and discuss practical ways to sustain impact while strengthening civic space advocacy.

As WOSAG, we remain committed to serving communities, amplifying the voices of women and marginalized groups, and contributing to locally led development through stronger partnerships and collective action.

We appreciate Star-Ghana Foundation and partners for creating this space for reflection, resilience, and shared learning.
