Who says a footballer can’t be a design expert? ⚽💻

Meet Abubakari Abdul Malik, a talented player for Tamale CFC. While he spends his days perfecting his skills on the football pitch, he is also building a powerful second career in Graphic Design, all thanks to the Plan B program.

For us, Plan B is about more than just the game; it’s about ensuring that every young talent has a secure, productive future regardless of where life takes them. We are nurturing Malik to be a well-rounded individual, ensuring he is a "seed plant" watered and nourished to thrive both on and off the field.

This transformation wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of our partners. A massive thank you to FANT - for a new tomorrow for investing in the potential of our youth. Together, we are redefining what it means to be an athlete in the modern era!

It was more than a game. It was a masterclass in global connection.

Big moves don’t happen by chance, they happen by design. The recent cultural exchange at Northern School of Business (NOBISCO) with students from Denmark’s Randers Realskole was an absolute success, and it proved one major thing: collaborations of this magnitude are exactly what is always made possible through Plan B.

Championed through the powerful partnership of FANT - for a new tomorrow and HOPin Academy, this initiative showed that Plan B is far more than just a football program. While the love of the game brought everyone together, the true goal was always about deep cultural exchange, mutual growth, and breaking boundaries.

By alignment on a shared course, FANT and HOPin Academy provided the ultimate framework to bridge the gap between Denmark and Ghana. Students didn't just tour a campus; they exchanged perspectives, challenged stereotypes, and discovered a shared drive for excellence.

When you have the right visionaries leading the way, Plan B will always open doors to incredible global possibilities. 🇩🇰🤝🇬🇭

Beyond the Tactics: Keeping the Dream Alive

In the high-stakes world of football, a single injury can change everything. While talent wins games, professional injury management ensures that careers and dreams last a lifetime.

Plan B is stepping up to bridge the gap between the pitch and player longevity. We are training coaches in essential injury management and physiotherapy, equipping them with the skills to effectively monitor and manage player fitness.

By empowering coaches with these medical foundations, we ensure that teams can handle physical challenges head-on, keeping players healthy, resilient, and ready for whatever the future holds.

The Reality of the Pitch: Why Every Athlete Needs a "Plan B"

For many young athletes, talent and grit are the only tools in their kit. But what happens when things don’t go as planned? Between career-ending injuries and the sheer unpredictability of professional sports, many talented players find themselves on the fringes of society once the final whistle blows.

We believe in empowering our dynamic footballers with alternative vocational livelihoods. By providing them with tangible skills, we ensure they have a competitive edge both on and off the field—standing strong regardless of what tomorrow brings.

Mohammed Alhassan is a professional goalkeeper for the local club, Tamale Soccer Angels. While he is dedicated to his craft between the posts, he is also a beneficiary of our apprenticeship program. Today, Mohammed is training to become a professional electrician.

Whether his football career takes him to the global stage or life leads him elsewhere, Mohammed has secured a future where he can make a meaningful living.

We aren't just building athletes; we are building resilient change-makers.

MEET ADAM ABDUL RASHID: The Power of a Plan B

What happens when the final whistle blows? For many young athletes, the future can feel uncertain, but the Plan B program is changing that narrative. This mentorship initiative is dedicated to giving footballers a second chance at a sustainable livelihood by equipping them with practical skills. By focusing on alternative career paths, the program ensures that young talents have a secure foundation to fall back on if their professional football journey does not go as planned.

One inspiring success story is Adam Abdul Rashid, a professional goalkeeper who has embraced the opportunity to diversify his expertise. Through the Plan B program, Adam has mastered the craft of motorbike mechanics, transforming himself into a dual-threat professional. Whether he is making saves on the pitch or repairs in the workshop, Adam is actively building a future that is not solely dependent on the unpredictable nature of sports.

By balancing his football career with his handwork as a mechanic, Adam embodies the core mission of the program: stability and a guaranteed tomorrow. This balance provides a sense of security, allowing athletes to pursue their dreams with the confidence that they can always provide for themselves and their families. Adam’s journey serves as a powerful reminder that having a strategic "Plan B" is the ultimate way to stay ahead of the game.

Why "PLAN B" is a Necessity for Ghanaian Footballers

The dream of professional football is vibrant in Ghana, but the statistics reveal a challenging reality. While talent is everywhere, the pathway to the top is narrow:

The Transition Gap: Only about 2 out of 10 young footballers successfully transition to professional ranks (Source: Plan B Club/FANT).

The Academy Reality: For standard local academies, the success rate for reaching top-tier global football ranges between 0.5% and 4%. Even elite models like Right to Dream highlight that a holistic approach is key to their 70% success rate.

Talent Sustainability: Without structured scouting and supervision, it is estimated that nearly 80% of youth talent is lost to the "waste-gate."

This is the driving force behind the PLAN B initiative. We don't just train athletes; we prepare them for life. By providing vocational training and alternative livelihood skills, we ensure that every player has a "PLAN B" to fall back on if a professional contract doesn't materialize.

We are securing futures, one skill at a time.

From the historic midnight of March 6, 1957, to becoming a modern beacon of innovation and democracy, our journey has been nothing short of heroic. Today, we celebrate 69 years of resilience, culture, and the unbreakable Ghanaian spirit.

At HOPin Academy, we honor our foundations by empowering the next generation of visionaries to lead us into a digital and prosperous future.

Happy Independence Day to every Ghanaian, home and abroad!

Alhassan Fakiha is a professional football player. She plays for Northern Ladies FC which is one of four Tamale-based teams in Ghana’s Premier League. In total, 10 teams qualify for the league, and Northern Ladies FC has been a staple in the Premier League since 2013.

Fakiha is a neutral player, but her coach positions her as a striker. She attends football training five times a week and usually plays friendly matches on the weekend – when there are no league matches, of course.

When we visit Fakiha for the first time, she’s at her apprenticeship. Here, she learns how to design, sew, and tailor clothing. She finishes the apprenticeship this summer.

When she was first introduced to Plan B Club, Fakiha had no other plans for her future besides football. She has now.

Because even though she is a tremendously talented player, the competition is tough, and the sport is not a guaranteed livelihood even for the very best players. That is why she’s extra focused on developing her skills in tailoring and designing.

She shows us a dress that she is about to finish. It has been ordered by a customer, and now she is just adding her final touches. She will not be paid for the dress, because her work is part of the apprenticeship.

Asking Fakiha about her dreams for the future now, she talks about grand ambitions within both sport and business. She still wants to be a professional footballer and represent her country on the international stage. But she also wants to be a professional clothing designer and open her own shop.
