GHANA YOUTH GUIDE is pleased to host five student interns from the Department of Political Science, University for Development Studies, Nyankpala Campus.

Over a six-week period, these young professionals are being immersed in the practical realities of NGO work, with intensive training and hands-on exposure in three core areas: public administration of which they are understanding NGO governance, stakeholder engagement, and how policy translates to grassroots action, project management design where they are learning to develop logical frameworks, set SMART objectives, and align interventions with community needs and donor expectations, project management - gaining practical skills in work planning, budgeting, monitoring & evaluation, and reporting.

The interns are not just in the classroom. They are actively contributing to GYG’s flagship _Resilient Roots of Change _ intervention, implemented with DIB and CISU in Tolon and Savelugu. They are reviewing project documents, analyzing our baseline survey reports, participating in internal presentations, and supporting documentation of our climate-smart agriculture work with women farmers.

This direct exposure to R2C gives them a front-row seat to how development projects move from proposal to impact — from expanding green parks to training women household farmers in sustainable practices.

At GYG, we believe in bridging the gap between academia and practice. Political Science students bring critical thinking, policy analysis, and advocacy skills that are vital for social change. By investing in their professional growth, we are strengthening the pipeline of future development practitioners who understand both the theory and the field realities of Northern Ghana.

We are proud of the energy, curiosity, and commitment these interns have shown so far. As they present, debate, and learn within our team, they remind us that sustainable development is also about transferring knowledge to the next generation.

We look forward to the fresh perspectives they will bring to GYG over the next six weeks — and the impact they will make in their careers beyond.

GHANA YOUTH GUIDE in partnership with DIB, funded by CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling, is advancing climate action at the community level through the Resilient Roots of Change intervention which is currently being implemented in Savelugu and Tolon districts in the Northern the Region.

The project is tackling environmental degradation head-on by planting over 300 trees across 10 communities.

Northern Ghana faces increasing climate shocks; erratic rainfall, prolonged dry spells, soil erosion, and loss of vegetation. These challenges threaten food security, livelihoods, and the wellbeing of young people and smallholder farmers. Our Resilient Roots of Change responds by restoring green cover, improving soil health, and building community ownership over environmental solutions.

The tree planting exercise brings together GYG staff, volunteers, and local school children to plant and nurture seedlings in schools and community spaces. This captures the spirit of collaboration GYG team members working side-by-side with students by instilling a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship from an early age. By engaging schools, the project ensures that climate action is not a one-off event but a learning process that shapes the next generation. Children are not only planting trees but understanding why trees matter for water retention, shade, food, and climate regulation.

GYG is a youth-led NGO working to empower young people and communities in Northern Ghana through climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, governance, and education.

GHANA YOUTH GUIDE in partnership with DIB has intensified monitoring field visits to project sites in Tolon and Savelugu as part of ongoing efforts to track progress and deepen community impact.

The recent visits combined on-site assessments with structured engagement meetings involving a wide range of stakeholders.

During the field visits, GYG and DIB held discussions with our
traditional authorities to ensure cultural alignment and community ownership, department of Agriculture for technical support and policy linkage, household farmers, and farmer support groups to review on-the-ground progress, community resilience committees driving local adaptation initiatives,
persons with disabilities and visible minority groups to uphold inclusion and equity

This approach reflects GYG’s core value of Respect for Human Rights and ensures that no one is left behind in the project’s implementation.

The engagement meetings centered on adaptation for sustainable livelihoods and food security in the districts. Stakeholders shared experiences, challenges, and early results from project interventions. Discussions highlighted the importance of climate-smart agricultural practices, strengthening farmer support systems, and building community-level resilience to climate shocks.

The collaborative sessions also allowed teams to validate progress, gather feedback, and adjust activities to better meet community needs.

The visit, captured during the R2C Monitoring Visit with DIB in Tolon, underscores the strength of partnership between GYG, DIB, and local communities. Bringing together traditional leaders, technical departments, and grassroots groups demonstrates a shared commitment to locally led development in Northern Ghana.

GYG remains committed to using these monitoring visits not just to track indicators, but to listen, learn, and co-create solutions with the people at the heart of the project.

The project is funded by the CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling

GHANA YOUTH GUIDE farmers take organic compost to the field as the rains begin.

As the rainy season sets in across Northern Ghana, farmers in Tolon and Savelugu are putting their skills into action. With support from GYG community volunteers and the project tricycles, our household farmers are now transporting their organic compost directly to their farms.

This is more than just logistics. It’s a clear sign of change.

Since the inception of the R2C intervention began in May 2025, GYG, in partnership with DIB and with funding support from CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling, has been running continuous capacity building training on sustainable climate-smart agriculture across 10 communities in Tolon and Savelugu.

Farmers have learned how to produce and use organic compost to improve soil health, retain moisture, and reduce dependence on chemical inputs.

Now, they are applying that knowledge on their own farms.

This shift from learning to doing shows the project’s core goal in action - building farmer ownership, strengthening local capacity, and making climate-smart agriculture practical and accessible.

We are proud to see our household farmers across Tolon and Savelugu taking charge of their farms with the tools and knowledge gained through the project. This is what resilient, farmer-led agriculture looks like.

GHANA YOUTH GUIDE and DIB Strengthen Project Monitoring in Savelugu.

GYG and DIB have intensified our monitoring of the Resilient Roots of Change (R2C) project in Savelugu to assess progress and real impact on our target groups.

Back in June 2025, we established School Green Clubs and School Gardens at Savelugu Senior High School to give students hands-on training in sustainable, climate-smart agriculture. During this monitoring visit, we met with the Headmaster and the school’s Agricultural Department to review how the gardens are serving as a practical learning space for students.

The results speak for themselves: After a successful cabbage harvest, the students and school have reinvested the funds to build an animal pen and start animal production. This new component will give students interested in livestock the same hands-on experience in animal husbandry.

It’s inspiring to see the project moving from crop production to integrated farming, building skills, confidence, and self-reliance in young people.

GHANA YOUTH GUIDE (GYG) and DIB have successfully concluded a two-day workshop on Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and Community Engagement Tools in Tamale.

The training, held as part of DIB’s project monitoring visit to Ghana, aimed to equip GYG staff and volunteers with practical skills to strengthen the implementation of the Resilient Roots of Change (R2C) project in Tolon and Savelugu Districts.

The workshop covered areas including; project management, planning, coordination, and delivery of community interventions, monitoring & evaluation systems - understanding MEL frameworks to track progress, measure impact, and ensure accountability in the field, community engagement tools - practical approaches to work effectively with household farmers and local stakeholders.

The R2C intervention is currently being implemented across 10 communities including Savelugu, Nyoglo, Libga, Nihinaayili, Zaazi, Tolon, Gbanojong, Woribugu Kamonaayili, Galinkpegu, and Gbalahagu.

The project is building the capacity of household farmers especially women and youth (high school students through our school gardens) - in sustainable climate-smart agriculture to improve food security and resilience against climate change.

The training brought together GYG staff and dedicated youth volunteers who are at the forefront of supporting farmers on the ground.

With stronger M&E systems in place, the team is better positioned to document impact, learn from experiences, and scale successful practices.

This partnership reflects GYG and DIB’s shared commitment to empowering vulnerable communities to lead climate action from the grassroots.

The intervention is funded by CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling

GHANA YOUTH GUIDE From Bumper Harvest to New Beginnings: Tolon Women Farmers Embrace Climate-Smart Agriculture Ahead of 2026 Season.

As the skies over Tolon begin to cloud and household women farmers under the Resilient Roots of Change_ project prepare to kick-start the 2026 farming season, we at Ghana Youth Guide are reflecting on the resilience and progress recorded in 2025.

Through our monthly field monitoring visits last year, GYG staff witnessed firsthand how beneficiary women farmers fully adopted climate-smart agriculture practices on their farms. This transformation followed targeted training and the distribution of certified climate and drought-resistant maize seeds. Despite erratic rainfall patterns, these interventions led to a bumper harvest across project communities boosting food security, household nutrition, and income levels.

The impact goes beyond seeds and training. To ease the burden of production costs, GYG continues to support our women farmers with a dedicated transportation system using our project tricycle motorbike. This service reduces the cost of moving organic compost produced by School Green Clubs at partner schools like Savelugu SHS directly to their farms.

The result: healthier soils, higher yields, and more sustainable farming practices.

Implemented by Ghana Youth Guide in partnership with DIB Denmark and supported by CISU - Civilsamfund i Udvikling, the Resilient Roots of Change project targets vulnerable households, especially women and persons with disabilities, in Tolon and Savelugu districts.

Our approach combines improved inputs, practical skills transfer, and logistical support to build lasting climate resilience.

We continue to commend the determination of our women farmers. Their commitment to sustainable agriculture is not only restoring degraded lands but also driving economic empowerment with many now saving from surplus sales, reinvesting in their farms, and supporting their children’s education.

As we await the rains for the 2026 season, GYG remains in direct contact with all beneficiary households.

We are committed to walking this journey with them, season after season because resilience grows one farm at a time.

Tolon's women are not just waiting for rain. They are ready for growth.
