Today, we join Pinale Rewbe Foundation and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Ghana for a Community Film Event on Ending Child Marriage, bringing together community members, young people, traditional and religious leaders, parents, and key stakeholders to reflect, engage, and take action towards protecting the rights and futures of girls.

We are honoured that our Executive Director, 𝗛𝗮𝗷𝗶𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝗱𝘂 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗼, Former President of Girls Not Brides, will serve as 𝗚𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗿 at the event.

Child marriage is not simply about a girl getting married too young. It can mean lost opportunities, interrupted education, compromised wellbeing and a future shaped by circumstances rather than choice.

Our Executive Director, 𝗛𝗮𝗷𝗶𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗲𝗶𝗱𝘂 𝗧𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗼, and staff member, 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁, represented Sung Foundation (SUFOD) at the 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗪𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, organised by Songtaba.

The conference explored a critical question:
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲?

The convening focused on moving beyond simply having women at the decision-making table to ensuring that women have the 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘, 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗟𝗨𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 and 𝗔𝗨𝗧𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗬 to shape decisions.

Key discussions centred on:

# 𝗔𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Moving from policy to practical, district-level action.

# 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘀 – Confronting the structural, institutional, and socio-cultural barriers that limit women’s leadership.

# 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 – Dismantling stereotypes and harmful perceptions about women in governance.

# 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 – Moving beyond simply having women at the table to ensuring they have the voice, influence, and authority to shape decisions.

# 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 – Building stronger networks, capacities, and systems that enable women to lead and influence governance at all levels.

At SUFOD, we believe women should not only be 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 in governance but also have the power to 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 and shape the future of their communities.

🌱𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 (𝗣𝗟𝗣)

Sung Foundation was represented by our Climate Change Officer, 𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗻 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗷𝗮 𝗚𝗼𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗮, at a two-day workshop of the 𝗚𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 (𝗣𝗟𝗣) held at UDS, Tamale.

The workshop, established by WASCAL and its research partners, brought together researchers, government institutions, traditional authorities, farmer organisations and civil society actors to share knowledge and strengthen collaboration around 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗦𝗟𝗠).

Discussions focused on findings from the 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗟𝗮𝗥𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁, land tenure dynamics in Northern Ghana, sustainable land management practices, Ghana’s Land Act, climate resilience and Integrated Soil Fertility Management.

The engagement provided an opportunity to share perspectives from civil society and deepen connections between 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆-𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲.

As the PLP initiative comes to an end, we are grateful for the knowledge and partnerships gained through this valuable platform.

"When women have a voice, communities listen"

Through the INUA PAGBA Project, women representatives from our participating communities took to the airwaves on Dasuma Radio in Yendi and Radio Zoya in Mion to speak on gender-based violence, child marriage, women's leadership, and the protection of women and girls.

Their voices, experiences, and messages are helping to take the conversation beyond the communities and inspire wider action for safer and more inclusive communities.
