Fishers Encounters at Sea: Part I - Shama, (W/R)
"One afternoon around 12:10 p.m., we set out to sea, but our outboard motor developed a fault. Stranded, we spent 15 days at sea. Our food and water supply ran out within the first five days, and for the remaining days, we survived by drinking seawater.
Without a sail, we were at the mercy of the wind, which kept pushing our canoe further into the deep sea. By the sixth day, we were too weak to do anything. On the fifteenth day, we were fortunate to encounter a passing canoe. They gave us food, restoring our strength, and we managed to paddle back to shore. This experience was one of the toughest moments of my life. It reminded me of how unpredictable the sea can be and the importance of being fully prepared before setting out."
This series highlight the need for awareness creation, training and tools to support small-scale fishers to be safe, whilst on expedition to find the next fish for our food, powered by FoN Ghana and .
