Throwback to Last Sunday with Tanokrom YMCA
Under the Youth and Women Empowerment Pillar of the Stronger Y’s Project by the Ghana YMCA, and with support from KFUM Sverige (YWCA-YMCA Sweden), the Tanokrom YMCA led a Youth at Risk Life Skills Training.

This intervention focused on equipping young people living in hostels with practical, income-generating skills, including liquid soap production and other essential detergents—skills that can be immediately applied for daily use and small-scale enterprise.

In a deliberate effort to meet young people where they are, our skilled volunteers visited three different hostels, reaching over 50 beneficiaries with hands-on training and mentorship.

We believe in taking opportunities directly into communities, building skills, and creating pathways for empowerment.

Another exciting Saturday at our Youth Centre where young people come together to learn, grow, connect, and have fun in a safe and supportive environment.

At the YMCA Youth Centre, we continue to create safe spaces where our young people can build literacy skills, strengthen teamwork, and enjoy meaningful recreational activities that support their overall development.

Last Saturday’s session featured reading and spelling activities, engaging group games, and a lively video gaming session that kept everyone active and involved.

Take a look at some of the highlights from the day!

Western Region YMCA 🌟 Y PERSON OF THE MONTH

We celebrate Peace Gbewonyo, Regional Youth Secretary and Green Ambassador as our Y Person of the Month 🎉

Peace has been a consistent and active supporter of the Western Regional YMCA, engaging with our social media platforms and helping to amplify our voice online.

In her words:
“The YMCA platforms to me are a space to learn, stay informed, and feel connected. They share impact stories and inspire young people to grow and get involved.”

Her perspective captures exactly what our community is about — connection, growth, and impact.

Beyond her engagement roles within the YMCA, Peace is also an entrepreneur, offering popsicles in large quantities for events — perfect for programs, celebrations, and gatherings.

👏 Congratulations, Peace Gbewonyo!
Thank you for being a strong voice in our digital community.

For your events, think popsicles — think Peace.

Its Monday! We are Restoring Hope and Rebuilding Lives.

We are pleased to share that, through the Stronger Y’s Project (Youth and Women Empowerment Pillar), the Ketan-Estate YMCA is supporting the reintegration of a female inmate in collaboration with our Vocational Training Institute (VTI) and the Sekondi Female Prison.

Following a 3-day intensive sewing training at our VTI, our beneficiary is now receiving start-up support to begin her journey in a trade, equipping her with the tools to build a sustainable livelihood.
This intervention goes beyond skills training. It is about restoring dignity, purpose, and a sense of belonging as she transitions back into society.

We remain committed to creating opportunities that empower, uplift, and transform lives within our communities.
We sincerely appreciate the Ghana YMCA and the continued partnership with KFUM Sverige, whose support makes impactful initiatives like this possible.

Together, we are building stronger Ys and stronger communities.

Building a Growth Mindset for Stronger Y’s
Last Friday, the Regional Secretariat team participated in a capacity-building engagement under the Organizational Development Pillar of Ghana YMCA Stronger Y’s Project. This was facilitated by our Regional Vice President, Goddy Nana Mens.

The session challenged the team to rethink how work is carried out within the movement—focusing on growth, efficiency, and long-term impact.

Key reflections included:
• Growth is not about settling, but about continuously improving what one already does
• True growth means making good work better and better work faster
• Effective work requires simple, interconnected systems and shared information
• Leveraging digital tools to work smarter, improve coordination, and enhance both outputs and outcomes

Such engagement strengthens commitment towards working more efficiently, collaboratively, and strategically—building systems that support sustainable impact across our branches.

We are grateful to the Ghana YMCA partner, KFUM Sverige, whose continued support makes the Stronger Y’s Project possible.

Together, we are building a stronger, more connected, and more effective YMCA movement.

Pad a Girl – Be Part of Her Confidence Story 💜
As we prepare towards Menstrual Hygiene Day in May, the Western YMCA Gender Committee is launching a simple but impactful initiative — “Pad a Girl.”

With a contribution of GH¢20 or more, you can help provide essential menstrual hygiene support to young girls in our communities, ensuring they stay healthy, confident, and in school.

This intervention goes beyond support — it is about dignity, awareness, and empowerment for every girl.
We invite individuals, groups, and partners to join us in making this possible. Together, we can create a safe and supportive environment where no girl is held back.

Check the poster for details on how to contribute and get involved.
Let’s make a difference — one girl, one step, one future at a time.

Raising Young Environmental Champions!
Last Saturday at our Youth Centre, we hosted an impactful “Green Action for Kids & Teens” session under the Ghana YMCA Stronger Ys Project, focusing on tackling the plastic waste menace and promoting responsible environmental behavior among young people.

Through a blend of interactive games, learning sessions, and practical actions, participants explored the impact of plastic waste and made personal green pledges toward a more sustainable future.
The distribution of reusable bottles further reinforced the importance of reducing single-use plastics.

Led by our dedicated Green Ambassadors, this session demonstrated how education, fun, and action can come together to inspire meaningful change among the next generation.

This initiative reflects our commitment to youth development and community wellbeing, environmental advocacy, which are all key pillars of the Stronger Ys Project.
We are grateful for the support Ghana YMCA and partners, especially KFUM Sverige, whose collaboration continues to make impactful interventions like this possible.

Together, we are nurturing a generation that is informed, responsible, and ready to protect our environment—one green action at a time. 🌍💚
