This year's theme, "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," speaks to the heart of who we are as the Africa Alliance of YMCAs. Across our continent, young people grow up in vastly different realities - yet they share the same longing: for dignity, for opportunity and for a future they can believe in.

Our Green Ambassadors were back at Tessark International School, one of the Green Schools we have proudly onboarded under our Green Futures Initiatives powered by World YMCA a through the Youth Empowerment Fund (YEF), for another round of plastic recovery.

Following the provision of “Sachets Only” collection bins, students have taken an important step in responsible waste management by carefully segregating used water sachets from other plastic waste. This simple but powerful practice makes recovery more efficient and ensures that the sachets can be collected and brought to our centre for further processing.

What makes this initiative meaningful is not just the number of sachets recovered, but the habit being built among young people — learning that waste can be separated, recovered and given a new purpose.

At Tessark International School, the students are showing us that when young people are equipped with the right knowledge and tools, they can become active participants in creating cleaner schools and healthier communities.

One sachet at a time. One school at a time. One greener future.

After a year of service, friendship, learning, laughter and unforgettable moments, our German Club gathered members of the Western YMCA family at the Takoradi YMCA Centre to celebrate and bid farewell to our CVJM-Westbund volunteer, Helene.

It was a beautiful gathering of people whose paths she crossed during her time with us.

There was laughter. There were stories. There were warm embraces. And, beneath it all, the emotions that come with saying goodbye to someone who has become a meaningful part of our lives.

Helene came to Ghana to serve, but she leaves having given so much more than her time. She shared her energy, ideas, kindness and friendship, becoming a familiar and cherished face within our YMCA family.

As we celebrated her journey, we were reminded that volunteering is not only about what we give — it is also about the relationships we build and the lives we touch along the way.

For Helene, Ghana may be her goodbye for now, but the friendships she has made and the memories she leaves behind will remain.

Auf Wiedersehen, Helene. Until we meet again.

Behind every great performance is a team that chose consistency over comfort.

For days, our Tanokrom YMCA Ten Sing family has been showing up, rehearsing, learning, improving, and growing together in preparation for the Second Edition of the Ten Sing Show.

What makes this journey even more exciting is that new faces continue to join the team, bringing fresh energy, new ideas, and a shared passion for creativity. With every rehearsal, Ten Sing is becoming more than a performance group of the Tanokrom YMCA —it's a growing community where young people discover their talents, build confidence, and create lasting friendships.

The stage may only tell part of the story, but these rehearsals reveal the dedication, teamwork, and commitment behind every song, every scene, and every dance.

We're getting ready, and we can't wait to share the result with you on Saturday, 8th August.

🌱 Growing the Green Movement, One School at a Time

Our Green Futures Initiative continued at Woodbridge International School, where we had the privilege of engaging over 100 students in an inspiring and interactive session on plastic pollution and environmental sustainability.

From the very beginning, the students' enthusiasm was evident. They actively participated in discussions, asked insightful questions, and demonstrated a genuine eagerness to learn how they can contribute to protecting the environment. Their level of engagement made it clear that this conversation is only the beginning.

Together, we explored practical actions through Reduce, Reuse, Replace, Recycle, and Education, showing that sustainable communities are built through informed choices and collective action. The overwhelming response from the students has encouraged us to take this engagement a step further and continue nurturing their passion for environmental stewardship.

Powered by the World YMCA Youth-Led Solutions, the Green Futures Initiative continues to equip young people with the knowledge, confidence, and opportunities to lead positive environmental change in their schools and communities.

As part of preparations for the 23rd Annual Ghana YMCA National Youth Conference, we are pleased to announce a revision of the conference registration fees.

The conference fee has been reduced to GH₵500.00 for all participants.

We believe this adjustment will help ease the financial burden on participants and encourage greater participation from across the Association.

We're back!

After a short break, the YMCA Youth Centre was alive once again with laughter, creativity, and meaningful connections as young people returned for another exciting Saturday session.

Participants enjoyed a variety of activities, including board games, card games, drawing, and an engaging origami session that challenged their creativity, patience, and problem-solving skills. Beyond the fun, every activity created opportunities to build friendships, strengthen teamwork, and develop important life skills in a safe and supportive environment.

It was wonderful to welcome our young people back, and we're excited to continue creating memorable experiences that inspire learning, growth, and belonging every Saturday.

This is just the beginning—we look forward to seeing even more young people join us in the coming weeks!
