Statement on the Situation in Akplabanya

Akplabanya is a devoted fishing community whose hardworking people have contributed significantly to the economic development of the Ada West District and Ghana as a whole. The fishing industry in the community continues to support livelihoods and sustain many families.

It is therefore imperative for our leaders and authorities to show a strong commitment to the development of the community. The good people of Akplabanya strongly believe that their concerns and developmental needs have been ignored by successive governments for far too long.

This situation cannot continue at this time. As a result, the community has decided to demonstrate in order to draw the government’s attention to their plight and the urgent need for development.

The Ada Youth Forum for Development (AYFFD) stands in solidarity with the people of Akplabanya. AYFFD will join the demonstration when the official date is communicated.

We will duly inform the public once the final date for the demonstration is announced.

*ADA YOUTH FORUM FOR DEVELOPMENT WELCOMES EXONERATION OF MCDAN*

The Ada Youth Forum for Development (AYFD) warmly welcomes the announcement by the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) clearing renowned businessman Dr. Daniel McKorley (McDan) of all allegations of financial wrongdoing. This outcome reaffirms our long-held belief in his integrity and vision, and we celebrate this moment with him, the McDan Group, and particularly Electrochem Ghana Ltd, whose operations are central to Ada’s development.

With the conclusion of investigations and the unfreezing of his accounts, Electrochem Ghana Ltd—the company legally mandated to develop the Ada Songor Lagoon—is poised for a new era of transformation. Freed from financial constraints, the company can now accelerate its ongoing projects, expand employment opportunities, and strengthen community initiatives that directly benefit the people of Ada.

As a youth group that has consistently supported McDan and his development agenda, the AYFD calls on all stakeholders to unite behind this renewed wave of progress. The exoneration of McDan is not just a personal victory—it is a triumph for truth, resilience, and the collective hope of Ada. Together, we look forward to greater prosperity and sustainable development for our beloved community.

Ada Youth Defends Naana Adiki:
Rejects Divisive Agenda
2nd September 2025
Statement by the Ada Concerned Youth
Council

The Ada Concerned Youth Council has observed
with disgust the reckless statement issued by a
group calling themselves the “Concerned Youth of Sege,” attacking Electrochem Ghana Limited and shamelessly dragging Naana Adiki I into their propaganda. We condemn this in the strongest possible terms.

Their statement, full of insults, empty threats, and manufactured grievances, is nothing but a cover-up for the destructive agenda of their Member of Parliament, Hon. Daniel Kessi Bessey.

Let us set the record straight. On the 4th of December, 2024, just days before the general
election, Daniel Kissi Bessey, then a candidate, was recorded at Bornikope openly declaring
that when elected, he would “lead the fight to recover the Songor Lagoon for the people of
Ada.” That reckless promise was not mere campaign talk. It was a direct incitement.
Following his victory, what happened? Attacks on Electrochem Ghana Limited, looting of
equipment, and deliberate attempts to destabilize operations at the Songor Lagoon. These facts cannot be denied.

For the so-called “Concerned Youth of Sege” to now claim that the agitation is natural
frustration and not the handiwork of their MP is shameful. Everyone in Ada knows that Daniel Kessi Bessey has been at the forefront of fanning division, opposing development, and
fighting against a legitimate company that holds the lease to redevelop the Songor Lagoon for
mutual benefit. His destructive actions already earned him disgrace: fines from the Ada
Traditional Council and exclusion from the 88th Asafotufiami festival. That is the record of
their MP.

Dragging Naana Adiki I into this is the lowest point of their desperation. For years, Naana
Adiki I has stood tall as a strong voice for peace, unity, and development in Ada. She has
worked tirelessly for progress and continues to be respected across Ada and beyond. To try
and smear her reputation with baseless accusations because she refuses to bend to cheap politics is a failed attempt. The people of Ada know her contribution and will not allow her
name to be soiled by a group of political errand boys.

We want to make it clear: these “Concerned Youth of Sege” are not the voice of Ada. They
are a rented crowd, dancing to the selfish political agenda of their MP. They do not represent the youth of Ada, and they cannot intimidate the true voices of progress.
The Songor Lagoon is not a playground for petty politics. The people of Ada want jobs,
opportunities, and development, not chaos and propaganda. Electrochem Ghana Limited,
with its lease and investment, is delivering that transformation. We will not allow an MP who
thrives on confusion and his hired youth to drag Ada backward.

Enough is enough. The hypocrisy must stop. Ada will not sit idle while selfish politicians use
the Songor Lagoon as bait for their ambitions.
This is the position of the Ada Concerned Youth Council, and we will resist every attempt
to destabilize our community through lies, propaganda, and reckless politics.

PRESS RELEASE
Ada Youth Forum for Development
Date: July 30, 2025
Subject: Unjust Demolition of McDan Showroom and Warehouse – A Shameful Act of Political Intimidation

The Ada Youth Forum for Development expresses its deepest outrage and disgust at the unlawful and disgraceful demolition of the McDan showroom and warehouse located on Spintex Road. This brazen act, reportedly carried out by individuals alleged to be national security operatives, is not only a direct assault on private enterprise, but a shameful stain on Ghana’s democratic fabric.

We are appalled that such a violent and cowardly operation was executed under the cover of night, without explanation, and with utter disregard for human dignity and property rights. Eyewitness accounts reveal that workers were denied the opportunity to retrieve their belongings, and those who attempted to document the incident were physically assaulted. This is not governance—it is state-sponsored thuggery.

We strongly suspect that this demolition is part of a politically motivated vendetta against Dr Daniel McKorley, a respected entrepreneur and former Board Chairman of the Ghana International Trade Fair Company. Dr. McKorley’s role in the redevelopment of the Trade Fair site was a collective board decision, not a personal crusade. To single him out for punishment is not only irrational, but dangerously vindictive.

Let us be clear: Dr. McKorley was not the Trade Fair Board—he was part of a team entrusted with a national redevelopment agenda. If certain elements within the current government view his contributions as a threat, then they must confront their own insecurities, not destroy the legacy of a man who has consistently invested in Ghana’s growth.

This reckless abuse of power by some appointees of the ruling government must be immediately investigated and condemned. If left unchecked, it sets a dangerous precedent—one that could fuel retaliatory actions when political tides inevitably shift. The NDC government must remember: power is transient, and actions taken today will echo tomorrow.

We call on civil society, the media, and all well-meaning Ghanaians to rise against this injustice. The Ada Youth Forum for Development stands firm in defense of entrepreneurship, fairness, and the rule of law. Those behind this cowardly demolition must bow their heads in shame, for they have not only attacked a man—they have insulted the very principles of democracy.

The Songor is dried again while in the rainy season. We don't think this is how the Adas want their Songor. When we told you Electrochem brought life to the Songor Lagoon, we were right after all. Electrochem stopped pumping seawater into the lagoon and it became dry. Chairman Dr Daniel McKorley, you brought Hope to Ada and we will keep supporting you to succeed.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ada Youth Forum for Development Condemns Rising Armed Robbery and Crime in Ada West District

Ada West District, Greater Accra Region – 6th July 2025

The Ada Youth Forum for Development strongly condemns the recent surge in armed robbery and violent criminal activities across communities in the Ada West District. We express our deepest concern and solidarity with the affected residents, business owners (mobile money vendors), okada riders and travellers who continue to live in fear due to these troubling developments.

Over the past few weeks, there have been several reports of armed robberies, burglaries, and acts of violence in Sege, Anyamam, and surrounding communities. These incidents not only threaten the safety and well-being of our people but also undermine development efforts and the general sense of peace that Ada has long been known for.

As a youth-led organization committed to the progress and safety of our district, we call on the District Security Council (DISEC), the Ghana Police Service, and other relevant security agencies to take immediate and concrete steps to address this situation. We recommend the following urgent actions:
1. Increased Police Patrols: Regular day and night patrols, particularly in high-risk areas, to deter criminal activity.
2. Establishment of More Police Posts: Communities like Anyamam, Nakomkope and Lolonya require better access to police protection through new posts or mobile security units.
3. Community Policing Engagements: Revive and strengthen neighborhood watch committees to enhance local intelligence gathering and community trust in the police.
4. Swift Investigation and Prosecution: Speedy and transparent investigation of reported crimes to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.
5. Support for Victims: The District Assembly and Department of Social Welfare should offer psychosocial and legal support to victims and families affected by these crimes.

We also urge community members to cooperate fully with the police by reporting suspicious movements and individuals. Security is a shared responsibility, and only through collective effort can we protect our communities.

The Ada Youth Forum for Development remains committed to advocating for a peaceful, safe, and progressive Ada West. We will continue to engage the youth, community leaders, and authorities to ensure that the voice of the people is heard and meaningful action is taken.
