At the heart of the Project is a simple but powerful conviction: young people have the power to influence decisions that affect their day-to-day lives. And that power needs a platform.

That's why ARK Development Organization has formed Young People's Parliament in the Ayensuano District bringing together over 200 young people from 10 communities to develop their leadership skills, find their voices, and take their rightful place in decisions that shape their communities.

Why youth? Because young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow, they are stakeholders of today. When young people are equipped with the skills to speak up, advocate, and lead, entire communities transform. The Young People's Parliament is that space where ideas are debated, voices are heard, and the next generation of change-makers is formed.

This initiative is part of the anchored in the Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership – Ghana (RWVLG) Program by Plan International Ghana, in partnership with Plan International Canada, NETRIGHT-Ghana, and AfriYAN Ghana, with generous support from Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada.

𝘽𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙤𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙨, 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚.
Imagine growing up being told that maths isn't for you. Or that crying makes you weak. Millions of children across Ghana hear messages like these every day, shaping how they see themselves and what they believe they can achieve.

In view of this, Ark Development Organization took the conversation about gender stereotypes to FM because real change happens when communities talk openly.

Did you know that in some parts of Ghana, only 11% of girls passed maths compared to nearly 30% of boys; not because girls are less capable, but because society tells them that certain subjects "aren't for them"? And while girls carry that burden, boys are silently pressured to suppress their emotions and "man up" leaving everyone worse off.

That's not a girl problem. That's not a boy problem. That's a community problem. And together, we can fix it. Ark Development Organization is committed to education that challenges harmful norms and builds a more equitable Ghana, one conversation at a time.

𝘾𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙒𝘼𝙎𝙃 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙪𝙝𝙪𝙢!
On , Ark Development Organization celebrates the incredible young champions of our Children-Led WASH Champions Initiative, supported by Fundación Anesvad; over 100 children across the Suhum Municipal District continue to lead the fight for clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in their schools and communities.

In the Suhum Municipality, basic school children under our Children-Led WASH Champions Initiative have been doing something remarkable;
👐Amede Presby School built a fully functional automatic handwashing station (works with or without electricity) from locally available materials. Designed and constructed by schoolchildren.

♻️ Nankese Presby School turned polythene waste from community streets into raincoats, tool box, hand fans, and flowers; transforming "rubbish" into a philosophy: this is not waste, this is a resource.

📢 Nana Kwaku Gyasi School walked beyond the school gate and spoke directly to market traders, elders, and community leaders about sanitation, young people holding intergenerational conversations that adults hadn't dared to start.

🌱 Newtown M/A Primary took the message from their classroom and carried it door to door. Their young champions launched a structured peer education campaign on waste segregation, developing their own messages, their own approaches, and their own monitoring. By competition day, they could report real changes in behaviour among those they had reached.

📚 Suhum M/A 'C' School flipped the classroom on its head, older students designed and delivered hygiene lessons for younger peers, using role plays, demonstrations, and materials they created themselves. The confidence and fluency with which these young educators communicated showed evidence of knowledge truly owned.

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming the RWVL Team from Plan International Ghana for a supportive monitoring visit. The conversations were rich, reflective, and forward-looking; exactly the kind of engagement that sharpens our work.

At ARK Development Organization, supportive monitoring visits are not just checkpoints, they are partnerships in action. They help us identify what is working, surface challenges early, strengthen accountability, and align our implementation with the highest standards our communities deserve.

𝘼 𝘽𝙤𝙡𝙙 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙉𝙏𝘿 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝙞𝙣 𝙂𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙖!
For too long, health interventions have been designed elsewhere and delivered in communities. Today, something different is happening.

Ghana Health Service has launched an intervention aimed at connecting individuals living with lymphatic filariasis directly to Ghana’s Social Services interventions. We are proud to have participated in engagement meetings at the district level (Ayensuano, Nsawam Adoagyiri, and West Akim) and together with patient advocates shared insights to make this bold move work. This is what it looks like when local leadership takes the wheel.

At Ark Development Organization, this resonates deeply with our current work: patient-led advocacy alongside Persons Living With Skin NTDs (PLWSNTDs), where those most affected help shape the response, not just receive it.

Local ownership isn’t just a strategy, it’s dignity in action. And for individuals living with skin NTDs across Ghana, it means their voices, needs, and lived realities are finally shaping the systems meant to serve them.

We celebrate this journey with Ghana Health Service, and we’re proud to be walking it together.

𝙍𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙎 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙀𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.
Meet Maame Aku. For years, she quietly endured Buruli ulcer; a painful, disfiguring disease that often goes undetected in communities until it is too late.

When one of our community health volunteers finally identified her case, the disease had progressed beyond what medicine alone could reverse. Her leg was amputated to save her life.

But Maame Aku is not defined by what she lost. She is defined by what she is reclaiming.

ARK Development Organization, with the support of Fundación Anesvad under the Empowering Communities for the Elimination of Skin-NTDs project, has partnered with QUALITYCARE Prosthetics & Orthotics to walk alongside Maame Aku on her road to recovery, providing the prosthetic and rehabilitation support she needs.

📌 Why does this matter?
Skin NTDs are among the world's most disabling diseases, yet they remain deeply neglected. Achieving elimination means reaching the last mile not just in detection and treatment, but in ensuring that persons living with NTD-related disability are rehabilitated, included, and empowered. Every restored life sends a message: this disease will not have the final word.

𝘽𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙮𝙩𝙝𝙨 𝙤𝙣 𝘼𝙞𝙧
The voice on the other end of the line changed everything.

It was an ordinary Friday morning in Asamankese. Our project team sat alongside Municipal Disease Control Officer in the Nkunim FM studio; microphones on, hearts ready.

We were talking about leprosy, a skin Neglected Tropical Disease that is treatable. Curable. Not a curse. Then a caller rang in. In a quiet, uncertain voice, they shared what so many still carry in silence: that leprosy is a hereditary curse. A sign of moral failure. A punishment from a deity.

And right there on air, in real time education did what medicine alone cannot. Myths cracked. Shame lost its grip. Light came in. That caller didn't just ask a question. They gave a gift to every listener who believed the same thing but hadn't found the courage to say it out loud.

This is why we show up. One conversation at a time, stigma loses its power.

Grateful to Fundación Anesvad for making this work possible and to every community member brave enough to ask the hard questions. Knowledge heals. Let's keep spreading it.

"𝙄 𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙮 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙬𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙩 𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙨... 𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙡 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮."
Those were the words of Maame Asantewaa, a respected church elder at Glory of God Church, Dobro.

At our Screening and Health Education event, held in collaboration with the Ghana Health Service, we welcomed 105 community members for free screening and life-changing sensitization on diabetes prevention, management, and stigma-breaking.

Madam Asantewaa discovered something that surprised her deeply: Type 1 diabetes has NOTHING to do with body weight. A myth she had carried for years, shattered in one afternoon. Her response? "I am going to educate my neighbors and family about this!"

That is the power of community health education. One person informed becomes a messenger. One myth corrected becomes a movement.

Prevention is possible. Knowledge is protection. And together, we can end the stigma.
