As part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable minerals governance in Ghana, COMPAD-Gh undertook community sensitisation activities at Kwakubedikrom and Yawbofokrom in the Municipality on critical mining-related issues affecting their community.

The engagements focused on key topics including Free, Prior and Informed Consent ( ), community rights, and the environmental impacts of mining activities. Discussions highlighted the importance of ensuring that communities are adequately informed and consulted before any mining activities take place on their lands.

Community members participated by sharing concerns about degradation, loss of , water pollution, and loss of local livelihoods caused by irresponsible mining practices. The engagement also created awareness on the need for collective community action to protect natural resources and uphold environmental justice.

At COMPAD-GH, we remain committed to empowering communities with knowledge and amplifying local voices in the fight for responsible and sustainable mining practices.

We sincerely appreciate the support of the European Union in Ghana.

As part of implementing the CSOs interventions for Sustainable Minerals Governance under the BRACE project, -Gh recently undertook community sensitisation activities in Atesokrom and Twapeasie communities within the Dormaa Municipality.

The engagement centered on mining laws, FPIC , Environmental Rights etc and the impacts of mining in their communities.

Community members shared the challenges they are facing to address the environmental impacts of mining coupled with loss of livelihoods.

Mining must be inclusive and communitites must decide whether or not they agree for their community to be mined.

We are grateful to the European Union in Ghana for the continuous support.

Mining must prioritize people and nature to ensure its sustainability. In achieving this, communities must be well positioned as active parties in the extractive sector.

We successfully held the project inception meeting for CSOs Interventions For Sustainable Minerals Governance project under the Building Resilient And Active Communities in Extractives (BRACE).

The meeting brought together relevant stakeholders within the extractive sector in the Bono Region. Participants included the representatives from Forestry Commission Ghana, Water Resources Commission, Regulatory Bodies, Dormaa Municipal Assembly, Traditional Council, Assembly members ,communities ,mining companies, CSOs/CBOs, media houses etc.

The project focuses on Promoting evidence based advocacy and dialogue between duty bearers and communities, strengthening community participation in minerals governance, enhancing community awareness on FPICs,environmental rights, human rights, mining laws etc. and Promoting informed public discourse on sustainable and accountable minerals governance.

This marks a significant step in empowering CSO and communities to actively engage duty bearers and advocate for their rights while protecting the environment and livelihoods.

This project is supported under the 3rd Party Finance of the Building Resilient and Active Communities in Extractive Landscapes (BRACE) Project, funded by the European Union in Ghana implemented by A Rocha Ghana , in partnership with Nature & Development Foundation and Wacam
