CAMP-CHANTIER TRANSFRONTALIER INTER-JEUNES
Today marks the 7th day of the ongoing 23rd international youth work camp in Leo, the capital of Sisilli Province in Burkina Faso
(23ème camp-chantier international des jeunes)

The objective among others is to bring Burkina Faso and Ghanaian youth annually to Sensitize 200 young people on environmental issues and sustainable forest management through training, conferences and practical workshops on climate change, reforestation, ecosystem management and the importance of biodiversity. They will plant over 10,000 trees on strategic sites identified in collaboration with local authorities and forestry services in order to combat deforestation, restore degraded soils and improve the vegetation cover of the Sissili province. The species chosen will be adapted to local climatic conditions and needs (fruit, forest and medicinal trees).
Again, to instil agroforestry and natural resource management skills in young participants through practical training in planting techniques, tree care, soil protection and ecosystem management. These skills will enable young people to become players in sustainable development and create local economic opportunities (rational use of forest resources, associated crops, etc.).
Also, to promote cross-border cooperation in environmental protection through joint initiatives between Burkina Faso and Ghana. The action will encourage exchanges between young people from the two countries and facilitate the implementation of concerted actions for forest conservation and the fight against deforestation on a regional scale and, encourage the participation of young people in building lasting peace in border areas, by promoting tolerance, intercultural dialogue and conflict prevention.
Finally, to promote civic engagement and voluntary work among young people through activities of community interest promote endogenous knowledge and the cultural heritage shared by cross-border peoples, through discovery, transmission and creative activities, that creates cross-border network of young leaders with common projects for sustainable development and community resilience.
