INSPIRING IMPACT: How a STEM Elevate Fellow Is Shaping the Next Generation of Women in STEM

At STEM Elevate, we are always proud to see our fellows turning vision into impact, and is a powerful example of that.

Led by our fellow Maame Ekua Acquah, recipient of the 2025 Lโ€™Orรฉalโ€“UNESCO For Women in Science Sub-Saharan Africa Young Talent Award, INSPIRE 2026 is a one-day immersive initiative designed to support young women in STEM (ages 19-25) as they transition from university into the professional world.

This stage of the journey is often marked by uncertainty, limited access to mentorship, and a lack of visible role models. INSPIRE 2026 seeks to address that gap by creating a space for learning, exposure, and connection.

Date: 2nd May 2026
Venue: West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP), University of Ghana, Legon

Participants will benefit from:

โ€ขSpeed mentorship with experienced professionals
โ€ขCollaborative challenge sessions focused on real-world issues such as climate change and public health in Ghana
โ€ขProfessional visibility training, including LinkedIn personal branding and professional headshots

What makes this event even more remarkable is the support of the community involved. Prof. Lydia Mosi, a mentor from STEM Elevate, will also serve as the keynote speaker, highlighting the power of a network dedicated to supporting and promoting women in STEM.

is more than an event. It is a reminder of what becomes possible when women in STEM are equipped, supported, and given room to lead.

Join us in championing this impact story and inspiring more young women in STEM who are creating real pathways for others to grow and lead.

Let's continue to elevate women in STEM together!

What does it really take to position yourself for global opportunities?

At STEM Elevateโ€™s recent engaging workshop, facilitated by Joel Kojo Abaka Anaman, we explored this in depth. The session focused on practical strategies to position fellows for global opportunities while navigating the realities of modern, non-linear career paths.

We kicked off with an interactive โ€œThis or Thatโ€ activity led by Prof. Priscilla Mante, where fellows discussed real-life career trade-offs around location, income, risk, and growth. This exercise set the tone for honest reflection on personal values and long-term priorities.

Joel then shared his own journey, emphasizing that career paths are rarely linear and that setbacks can shape resilience, mindset, and directionโ€”reminding fellows that โ€œyou are the author of your life, but also a product of your environment.โ€

A key highlight of the session was the emphasis on intentional growth through volunteering, skill-building, and curiosity. Using the CIA framework (Curiosity, Insight, Agency), fellows were encouraged to actively learn, interpret opportunities, and take action, thus positioning themselves to access the MSC (Mentors, Sponsors, Coaches) essential for career advancement.

The discussion also reinforced the importance of networking, visibility, and overcoming imposter syndrome by emphasizing growth over perfection.

Overall, the workshop was practical and impactful, equipping fellows with clarity, confidence, and tools to navigate global career opportunities. It reaffirmed STEM Elevateโ€™s commitment to preparing women in STEM to thrive and lead on a global stage.
