Tomorrow, Saturday, February 28, is the big day — the SEaP Conference.

Join us for an inspiring showcase of how MSc Development Management students have moved beyond the classroom to create real impact in society through the Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (SEaP) project.

The HOPE4NEXTGEN Project is an educational support initiative created and implemented by Mary Agyekumwaa Nimo, an MSc Development Management student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, under the Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (SEaP) programme.

The project was established to support a brilliant but financially challenged student whose parents are living with disabilities. Despite facing significant socio-economic barriers, the student demonstrated exceptional academic promise and determination to succeed.

The beneficiary was identified during a field assignment in Mary’s capacity as a Women in Agricultural Development (WIAD) Officer at the Department of Agriculture in Kutiskpem, a rural community in the Garu District of the Upper East Region. Recognizing the student’s potential, the HOPE4NEXTGEN Project mobilized community support and provided targeted assistance to ensure continued education.

Through this intervention, the student successfully gained admission to Bolgatanga Technical High School. The project covered admission-related expenses, purchased all required items listed on the school’s prospectus, facilitated access to financial support from the District Assembly, and provided ongoing mentorship and emotional guidance.

At Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, leadership is being redefined beyond the classroom.

Sandra Andoh, an MSc Development Management student, is transforming academic insight into real community impact through her Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (SEaP) project titled 'Every Child, Every Chance'.

Driven by the belief that every child regardless of birthplace or background deserves equal access to quality education, Sandra took action where it was needed most.

In the Upper Denkyira West District, a needs assessment at Ayanfuri Methodist Basic School revealed a pressing challenge: over 140 kindergarten pupils learning without adequate tables, forced to squeeze together in conditions that limited concentration and participation.

Recognizing that early childhood education forms the foundation of lifelong learning, Sandra mobilized resources and stakeholders to provide six purposefully designed roundtables that encourage inclusiveness, teamwork, and interactive learning.

Beyond furniture, the project expanded access by enrolling three children into school; reinforcing its mission of equity and opportunity. What began as a student requirement evolved into a powerful statement: that meaningful change starts with empathy, intentional leadership, and the courage to act.

'Every Child, Every Chance' is a commitment to dignity in learning, hope for underserved communities, and the belief that sometimes, addressing one specific need can shape a brighter future for many.

Turning theory into tangible impact; KNUST students support disadvantaged youth

Under the Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (SEaP) project, MSc Development Management students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology have supported disadvantaged youth at the “Mother of All Nations” NGO; an organization committed to providing quality education and essential life skills to vulnerable young people.

Through the installation of running water and improvements to the learning environment, the team has helped create a cleaner, safer and more dignified space for education. The intervention not only enhances daily learning conditions but also advances the global agenda for inclusive and equitable quality education under SDG 4, while strengthening institutions and community support systems in line with SDG 16.

The intervention is a demonstration of how academic knowledge, when matched with purpose, can drive sustainable change where it matters most. Michelle Ankrah-Pambuor

What started as a simple student-led initiative has grown into a practical solution to improving maternal and child healthcare in underserved communities.

The Moaglaa Health Integration Project (MoHIP) implemented by MSc. Development Management students under the Social Entrepreneurship & Philanthropy Program of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology supports better systems to coordinate patient records, generate reports, and process NHIS claims while expectant mothers and patients receive more integrated and compassionate care.

From an idea to real impact — putting smiles on faces and strengthening frontline healthcare where it matters most.

Moved by the growing danger, a group of Development Management students from KNUST as part of their Social Entrepreneurship and Philanthropy (SEaP) project under the coordinated effort of Dr Victoria Mensah Nyamadi mobilized funds and installed lighting to restore visibility and safety in the tunnel.
