Our WPSD Global 2026 Theme is Out....Safe Care for NCDS

Dear colleagues,

Greetings from Geneva.

WHO is pleased to announce that the theme for World Patient Safety Day (WPSD) 2026 is ‘Safe care for noncommunicable diseases’, with the slogan ‘Safe care for life!’. This year’s theme was selected based on the recommendations of the WPSD 2025 Steering Committee, recognizing the need to address patient safety risks associated with the long-term and complex management of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs).

People living with NCDs face a heightened risk of preventable harm across the continuum of care, from prevention and early detection to long-term management and self-care. Addressing this challenge requires coordinated efforts to strengthen health systems, improve the safety of long-term and complex care, and address the impact of determinants of health. The campaign also highlights the importance of engaging people living with NCDs and communities, alongside health workers, to improve safety and reduce avoidable harm.

Please help spread the word about the campaign by sharing the enclosed announcement with your networks. The WPSD 2026 Events Page is now available in English here and will soon be accessible in all UN languages. In the coming weeks, this webpage will contain the announcement in all UN official languages. The WHO campaign page including further content and campaign materials will be populated in the upcoming months.

We encourage you to start planning activities to mark the day and invite you to continue sharing updates, discussions and resources related to WPSD and broader patient safety topics on GPSN.

We look forward to your contributions in making this campaign a success.

Thank you and best regards,

Ayda Taha on behalf of the Quality and Patient Safety Team

CAFAF/GAAPP Ghana’s Asthma Care Ambassadors Leading the Charge in Ga Mashie-Accra Ghana

ACCRA, GHANA – Community and Family Aid Foundation (CAFAF) Ghana is proud to announce a major milestone in our mission to transform ASTHMA and other respiratory health issues. In the heart of Ga Mashie, Accra, our newly trained cohort of Asthma Care Ambassadors has officially hit the ground, serving as the vital frontline for asthma advocacy and education.

Real Impact at the Doorstep

These trained local leaders are doing more than just sharing information; they are changing lives. By moving through slum communities, markets, offices, and homes etc

Our Ambassadors are:

• Providing Peer Support: Offering families a shoulder to lean on and practical advice for managing asthma.

• Breaking Taboos: Actively dismantling myths and disinformation that have historically prevented patients from seeking proper care.

• Facilitating Referrals: Bridging the gap between the community and health facilities, ensuring families receive timely treatment and long-term medical commodities.

The "Communities Asthma Talks-Series-CAT”

Through our Ghana Asthma Care initiative, the Communities Asthma Talks-Series is making significant inroads. Our regular community outreaches have become a hub for success stories and a vital touch point for identifying emerging trends in respiratory health. We are seeing a direct shift in the narrative as education reaches the doorsteps of the most vulnerable.

Driving Future Policy

This initiative is not just about immediate relief—it is about long-term systemic change. Our Ambassadors are gathering real-time data from the field. This evidence is crucial for driving future healthcare advocacy and informing national respiratory health policies in Ghana.

Community And Family Aid Foundation-Ghana (CAFAF-Ghana) Commemorates World TB Day 2026: "Yes! We Can End TB!" Through Community-Led Action

ACCRA, GHANA – March 24, 2026 –Tuesday- On this World TB Day, Community And Family Aid Foundation-Ghana (CAFAF-Ghana) joins the global community to reflect on the 2026 theme, "Yes! We Can End TB!" This year, we spotlight the urgent need for inclusive leadership, placing people and communities burdened by TB at the helm of decision-making to drive effective reforms.

While global efforts have made strides, TB remains a major public health challenge, with millions infected annually and many lacking access to proper care. In Ghana, the burden is significant, requiring intensified, community-driven action to bridge the gap in diagnosis and treatment.

Key Initiatives and Future

Plans for Ghana: CAFAF-Ghana is committed to accelerating the fight against TB through:

Community-Led Monitoring: Implementing systems where affected communities track service quality.

Decentralized Care: Strengthening access to diagnosis and treatment at the district level.

Advocacy for Reforms: Partnering with stakeholders to ensure equitable allocation of resources for TB.

About CAFAF-Ghana

Community And Family Aid Foundation-Ghana is dedicated to improving health outcomes and fostering community empowerment, with a focus on TB eradication and comprehensive care.

Community And Family Aid Foundation-Ghana (CAFAF-Ghana) Calls for Gender-Responsive Water Solutions on World Water Day 2026

ACCRA, GHANA – March 22, 2026 – Today, Sunday, March 22, 2026, the Community And Family Aid Foundation-Ghana (CAFAF-Ghana) joins the global community in celebrating World Water Day. As we reflect on the 2026 theme, "Water and Gender: Where Water Flows, Equality Grows," we reaffirm our commitment to accelerating access to safe water and sanitation, recognizing that the water crisis is deeply intertwined with gender inequality.

Global & Local Water Situation

The 2026 Reality

World Water Day 2026 shines a spotlight on the alarming global reality that over 2 billion people still live without access to safe water. In many communities, women and girls bear the brunt of this crisis, spending millions of collective hours fetching water, which hampers education and economic opportunities.

In Ghana, despite progress toward basic water access, the situation remains challenging. Recent reports indicate that while around 88% of Ghanaians have access to basic water services, only 44% benefit from safely managed water services—water that is on-premises, available when needed, and free from contamination.

Furthermore, in rural Ghana, many still rely on unimproved or surface water sources. The burden of this scarcity falls heavily on women, who are the primary caregivers and water managers, yet often have the least voice in water management decisions.

Reflecting on the 2026 Theme: "Where Water Flows, Equality Grows"

CAFAF-Ghana embraces the 2026 theme as a call to action to move beyond just providing infrastructure.

We believe in:Centering Women: Involving women in the planning, leadership, and maintenance of water systems.

Promoting Health and Education: Ensuring that schools and health centers have proper sanitation, allowing girls to stay in school and reducing water-borne diseases.

Sustainability: Managing water as a precious, finite resource that must be protected for future generations.

Our Commitment and Future Plans for Ghana

In line with Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6)—water and sanitation for all by 2030 CAFAF-Ghana is taking concrete steps to turn this commitment into action.

Our future plans for Ghana focus on:

Solar-Powered Boreholes: Implementing sustainable, renewable energy-based water points in underserved rural communities

Gender-Inclusive WASH Projects: Specifically designing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure to reduce the burden on women and enhance their participation in local water committees.

Water Quality Management: Educating communities on water testing and treatment to ensure safe drinking water.

"On this World Water Day, we are not just marking a date on the calendar; we are committing to a future where every Ghanaian woman and child has access to safe water within their home," said Joseph Kwashie- PresidentAndCEO of CAFAF-Ghana, "When we invest in water, we invest in health, education, and equality. Where water flows, equality truly grows."
CAFAF-Ghana calls on the government, stakeholders, and partners to prioritize gender-sensitive, sustainable water solutions.
