Happy Mother’s Day from the Women in Timber Ghana Association 💚🌸

Today, we celebrate all mothers and women whose love, strength, and hard work continue to shape our homes, communities, and forests.

To every mother in forestry, farming, business, leadership, and community development, thank you for all that you do. Your impact goes beyond generations.

WiTG wishes all members and mothers a joyful and blessed Mother’s Day.

A proud moment for Women in Timber Ghana Association

Our President, Mad. Ernestina Nsiah-Ababio participated in the Women in Forestry: Connecting Across Borders and Generations held in Graz, Austria

The conference, organized by WOFO International, brought together inspiring women from across the world to share ideas, experiences, and solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable forestry sector.

This opportunity means a lot to us as an association. It allows WiTG to:
🌿 Share our work from Ghana
🌿 Learn from global best practices
🌿 Build strong international connections

“Being part of this global conversation reminds us that women everywhere are leading change in forestry.” Mad. Ernestina Nsiah-Ababio

We are excited for what lies ahead as we continue to grow and collaborate beyond borders.

🌍 Our forests, our future.

The Women in Timber Ghana Association (WiTG) successfully participated in a two-day consultative meeting to brainstorm and gather inputs for its Strategic Plan.

This engagement, organized with support from Knowledge for World Conservation - KWC, was held under the project titled “Advancing Good Forest and Mineral Governance to Reduce the Contribution of Timber Trade and Mining to Deforestation in Ghana, Liberia, and Cameroon.”

The session brought together stakeholders to share insights, strengthen collaboration, and contribute to shaping a more inclusive and sustainable future for Ghana’s forestry sector.

We were honored to host a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) - Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) at our restoration site at the Asubima Forest Reserve, Offinso Forest District. This visit provided a platform to showcase our progress so far.

A big thank you to the FAO team for their technical and financial support, which continues to be a catalyst for our mission to professionalize female-led forest enterprises in Ghana.

WiTG is proud to announce the successful completion of a comprehensive silvicultural training for our members and secretariat staff. Members from various regions of Ghana gained a foundational understanding of key sustainable forestry practices, including silvicultural practices, wildfire management, and timber harvesting.

This training was made possible by the expert facilitation of Dr. Abukari Nantogmah Attah Esq., with support from Betty Abeyie as the translator. We express our heartfelt thanks to them for honoring our invitation. We also commend Mrs Ernestina Owusu Banahene, Mad. Baah, Obeng-Gyimah Mayfair, and Javis Nana Bediako Asare for their meticulous organization.

We are deeply grateful to our donors, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), for their generous support under the Forest and Farm Facility programme, which funded this vital training. This hands-on knowledge is essential for fostering a more resilient and responsible timber industry in Ghana.

Women in Timber Ghana Association (WiTG) had the privilege of hosting a transformative training session on Wood Preservation and Handling at the Kumasi Innovation Hub on the KNUST campus.

It was an inspiring day that brought together participants from various places, including Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Techiman.

Led by the expert guidance of Dr. Abukari Nantogmah Attah Esq. This initiative is a cornerstone of our mission to economically empower women and promote climate resilience through sustainable forestry practices.

By equipping our members with these skills, we are not only helping them increase the lifespan and value of their products, but we are also fostering a more sustainable and responsible timber industry in Ghana.

A special thank you to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for funding this training. We're proud to be at the forefront of this change.

International Zero Waste Day

Today we celebrate a cleaner, greener future!

At Women in Timber-Ghana, we are focusing on something very close to our work, sawdust waste. What many see as waste, we see as opportunity. With the right innovation, sawdust can be turned into briquettes, compost, and other useful products that help both people and the planet.

Let’s work together to:
🌿 Reduce waste
🌿 Protect our forests
🌿 Create jobs for women
🌿 Build a sustainable future

Waste is not the end; it’s the beginning of something new.
