Scholar Spotlight: Osei Hectoria

Some scholars step into the classroom to build brighter futures. This is one of those stories.

Meet Osei Hectoria, a third-year BSc. Human Resource Management student at KNUST and a first-time Hulede Foundation scholar. For her community service, she dedicated 72 hours to Brainy Kings and Queens Montessori School.

Hectoria identified a critical need at the school: high employee turnover and a clear demand for support. She stepped in as an English teacher for Class Five and Four students and as a Religious and Moral Education teacher for Class Three.

She planned and delivered lessons focused on grammar, letter writing, and reading comprehension. She conducted one-on-one reading sessions with students requiring extra support and taught them the procedures for writing friendly letters. She graded assignments and provided constructive feedback to encourage confidence.

For her RME classes, she used storytelling, environmental examples, and interactive discussions to explain God's creation and moral values.

The impact was significant. She observed clear improvement in students' ability to construct sentences and express ideas clearly in their letter writing. Student participation and memorization in RME increased through engaging teaching methods.

Hectoria's experience challenged her to simplify complex verbal rules and taught her the importance of patience and storytelling in education. The Hulede Foundation is proud to celebrate her for embodying the spirit of service and leadership.

Scholar Spotlight: Offeney Evans

Some scholars see a need and respond with compassion. This is one of those stories.

Meet Offeney Evans, a final-year BSc. Agriculture student at KNUST and a three-time Hulede Foundation scholar. For his community service, he chose to support a woman in need—Miss Felicia Amanor, a person with a disability who sells provisions to support herself and her family.

Miss Amanor was once a strong and hardworking woman until illness took away her ability to walk. She now lives with her son and grandchildren, relying on her small trade to survive. As she ages, she grows weaker and can no longer perform strenuous tasks.

Offeney consulted his mother on how best to help and came up with a plan. He took 300 cedis to the market to purchase provisions—gari, sugar, biscuits, and groundnuts—to restock her business. His mother also began buying food commodities for Miss Amanor each market day, supplying her with yams, plantains, and vegetables.

The impact was immediate. Restocking her business will increase her income and profit, allowing her to meet her basic needs. Most importantly, Miss Amanor is excited and happy to see her business continue—something she has always loved to do.

Offeney's top priority now is to get her a new wheelchair so she can attend church again. His story reminds us that true leadership is about seeing a need and taking action. The Hulede Foundation is proud to celebrate Offeney Evans for his compassion and service.

Scholar Spotlight: Louisa Akyaa Boakye Nuako

Some scholars lay foundations for the future. This is one of those stories.

Meet Louisa Akyaa Boakye Nuako, a BSc. Business Administration student at KNUST and a Hulede Foundation scholar. For her community service, she dedicated 56 hours to teaching Kindergarten 1 pupils at Janeek Montessori School.

Her mission was clear: enhance early childhood development through literacy, numeracy, and basic social skills. She designed interactive story sessions that helped pupils recognize the alphabet, read two-letter words, and gradually read simple passages. She created original stories linked directly to classroom lessons, sparking curiosity and accelerating knowledge retention.

Louisa organized group activities in drawing, counting, and singing to promote both academic skills and social interaction. She provided targeted support to struggling pupils, boosting their confidence and skill mastery. She also taught essential social etiquette like gratitude and greetings, using gentle discipline and rewards to build a respectful classroom environment.

The impact was visible. Pupils gained confidence and enthusiasm for learning. Many mastered writing independently and developed stronger communication skills. Through play-based learning, children from diverse backgrounds formed friendships and strengthened vital social skills.

Scholar Spotlight: Baidoo Christopher Kwesi

Some scholars pour their hearts into education. This is one of those stories.

Meet Baidoo Christopher Kwesi, a BSc. Materials Engineering student at KNUST and a Hulede Foundation scholar. For his community service, he dedicated an extraordinary 231 hours to Victory Seed School, serving as a teacher and mentor.

Christopher's motivation was deeply personal: to give hope to the youth in his community. Many young people lose interest in education because they believe they cannot further their studies due to financial challenges. He wanted to show them that giving up is not an option and that opportunities like the Hulede Foundation Scholarship exist to support committed students.

He taught Mathematics, Science, RME, History, English, Fante, and Creative Arts across multiple classes—from Basic 4 to JHS 3. He constructed practical lessons on using the loom to produce Pom-Pom mats and prepared a school timetable for JHS 1-3 to improve teaching and learning.

He also introduced early morning classes for JHS 3 students struggling with Mathematics basics and supervised an inter-schools friendly match.

The impact was visible. Students showed improved participation, particularly in Mathematics, and were motivated whenever he spoke about opportunities like the Hulede Foundation. Christopher himself completed an online beginner course in Excel to better serve the school.

Scholar Spotlight: Amoah Jethro Atta Lartey

Some scholars bring their analytical minds to the classroom. This is one of those stories.

Meet Amoah Jethro Atta Lartey, a third-year Actuarial Science student at KNUST and a Hulede Foundation scholar. For his community service, he served as a Volunteer Teaching Assistant at Anwomaso M/A Junior High School.

For over one month, Jethro dedicated 120 hours to supporting Mathematics education. He graded exercises, provided constructive feedback, and taught lessons covering geometric shapes, angles, construction, data interpretation, and charts.

He designed interactive lessons that encouraged practical problem-solving and active participation. Beyond teaching, he mentored students during independent study sessions, guiding them through complex mathematical principles and demonstrating real-world applications.

Witnessing the students' resilience and enthusiasm despite their challenges was incredibly rewarding. The experience sharpened his communication, patience, adaptability, and empathetic leadership skills.

Scholar Spotlight: Ameyaw Yeboaa Florence

Some scholars turn global challenges into personal missions. This is one of those stories.

Meet Ameyaw Yeboaa Florence, a student at KNUST's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and a Hulede Foundation scholar. For nine weeks, she volunteered with A Rocha Ghana, bringing climate education to students in Mim, Asisiriwa, Obbo, and Aduafo.

Before this opportunity, climate change felt like a distant global challenge. But standing before eager learners, Florence realized that many students had heard about climate change without understanding how directly it affects their daily lives. She made it her mission to change that.

She engaged students in climate education, teaching them about climate change, biodiversity, and practical ways to protect the environment. Through interactive games, discussions, and outdoor activities, she watched curiosity grow into concern and, ultimately, a willingness to act.

The experience transformed Florence's knowledge into a desire to create lasting change for future generations. She learned patience, confidence, creativity, and empathy. She discovered how to explain complex ideas in simple ways and lead by example.

Scholar Spotlight: Aboagye Isaac Prah

Some scholars serve where they live. This is one of those stories.

Meet Aboagye Isaac Prah, a second-year BA Economics student at KNUST and a Hulede Foundation scholar. For his community service, he chose to give back close to home—at Calvary Charismatic Centre in Ayigya and in his own neighbourhood at Buokrom Estate.

At Calvary Charismatic Centre, Isaac engaged in clean-up activities and administrative work. His motivation was simple: giving back to God and to the community that has helped shape him.

He also took initiative in his own neighbourhood. For years, gutters under construction in Buokrom Estate had been left incomplete, becoming dumping sites for rubbish. Isaac decided to take action. He cleaned and tidied the gutters, working alongside community members to restore cleanliness to his environment.

Through these experiences, Isaac learned the importance of teamwork, tolerance, and collaboration. He discovered the power of taking a singular decision to cause change and the boldness required to do what is right.

Scholar Spotlight: Nangpaak Wisdom Biisiki

Some scholars return to their roots to make a difference. This is one of those stories.

Meet Nangpaak Wisdom Biisiki, a fourth-year Land Economy student at KNUST and a Hulede Foundation scholar. For his community service, he chose to serve at Tin-dong M/A Primary School in the Gushegu Municipal Assembly of the Northern Region.

Wisdom was assigned to teach Mathematics to pupils from Class Three to Class Five. The school had an inadequate number of Mathematics teachers, so his presence was a timely intervention. For two weeks and four days, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., he took students through their lessons, took attendance, gave assignments, and participated in setting the end-of-year Mathematics exams.

The impact was significant. Pupils became more active and confident in class, and some showed visible improvement in their performance. Students who could not participate fully were encouraged to do better in the next term.

Wisdom also gained invaluable experiences. He learned mentorship from his supervisor, time management from the demands of the service, and leadership and communication skills from handling students with diverse ideas.

Scholar Spotlight: Agboloso George

Some scholars step in where the need is greatest. This is one of those stories.

Meet Agboloso George, a Hulede Foundation scholar at KNUST. For his community service, he volunteered as a Government teacher at Simms Senior High School for three months, from October to December.

George identified a critical challenge: the school lacked adequate Government teachers. Students were at risk of inconsistent instruction and gaps in their learning. He stepped in to fill the gap.

He taught students key topics in Government, helped them understand difficult concepts, and prepared them for class tests and examinations. He also guided students in developing better study habits and encouraged their active participation during lessons.

His contribution reduced the workload of existing teachers and ensured students received consistent instruction. The experience strengthened his passion for teaching and community service while enabling him to make a positive impact on the school.

George's story reminds us that sometimes the most impactful service is simply showing up where you are needed and giving your best. The Hulede Foundation is proud to celebrate Agboloso George for his dedication to education.
