HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, GHANA!

As we celebrate the Ghana’s 69th Independence Day today, we are reminded of the struggle of our forefathers. Their strength, courage, resilience, and vision have given us the freedom we are benefiting today. Their toil and sacrifices were indeed not in vain. There has been a tremendous transformation from where they left us.

As an Organization, we believe that true independence should be a reflection of good health and well-being of every society. Achieving this, we leverage on the efforts of other Organizations, communities, and individuals to reach our goal.

With a great vision, let us join hands together for a healthier and stronger Ghana.

Long Live Ghana!

NANE HERITAGE FOUNDATION IS EMBARKING ON STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT IN THE EASTERN REGION TO PROMOTE SAFE FOOD HANDLING PRACTICES IN LOCAL MARKETS

On 31tst December 2025, Nane Heritage Foundation organized a stakeholder engagement meeting on the topic, “Unsanitary Food Handling Practices in some Local Markets in the Region.” This meeting brought together key stakeholders with technical expertise and influence to help curb practices that threaten public health and undermine the Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

The participants were made up of the Head of Product Monitoring Unit of Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) of the Eastern Region, Environmental Health Officer, Koforidua Market Women Union representatives, and a Media Personnel.

Through evidence-based presentation by the Foundation and shared observation, there was an urgent call to enforce regulations and public education to safeguard consumers.

According to the FDA Head of Product Monitoring in the region, public engagement is a critical path in ensuring we break the silence on food safety concerns and call for a collective action to protect the health and well-being of communities.

By Martin Luther King Jr., “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”

PROJECT SITE VISIT AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT - ANIDZI, KWAHU AFRAM PLAINS NORTH DISTRICT, EASTERN Eastern Regional Health Directorate

With support from our partners, Wilde Ganzen and Stichting Their Voice, Nane Heritage Foundation undertook a project site visit to Anidzi, a hard-to-reach and deprived community in Kwahu Afram Plains North District, Eastern Region.

The health facility is a community initiated project aimed at improving access to healthcare services. Although the project has still not been completed since its commencement in 2014, it is in use as there is no other alternative structure for service delivery.

With the current funding secured from Wilde Ganzen and Stichting Their Voice, targeting work on ceiling and concrete apron of the health facility, we continue our efforts in mobilizing support to raise resources to complete the remaining components of the project (louvre window, bio-digester, painting) to make it fully functional.

We sincerely express our gratitude to the Eastern Regional Health Directorate, Kwahu Afram North District Health Directorate, and the people of Anidzi, for the warm reception and cooperation received.

🎗️ It's World Diabetes Day: Let's Talk About the Big D. 🩸

Diabetes affects how your body handles sugar in your blood. Think of it this way: your body needs sugar for energy, and insulin acts as a key to let sugar into your cells. With diabetes, this system doesn't work properly.

There are two main types:

· Type 1 Diabetes: The body can't make insulin. It usually starts in children and young adults. People with Type 1 need to take insulin every day.
· Type 2 Diabetes: The body doesn't use insulin well. It's more common and can develop at any age. Lifestyle changes often help manage it.

What you can do:

· Eat healthy foods
· Stay active
· Maintain a healthy weight
· Get regular check-ups

Remember:

· Diabetes is serious but manageable
· Type 1 isn't caused by eating too much sugar
· Being supportive helps those living with diabetes

Today, we wear blue to show support. Let's work together to understand diabetes better.

Capacity Building of Quality Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) Care

Having gone through training on Syndromic Management of STIs, we have, through the support of Birim North District Assembly, scaled it up to 6 sub-district's Primary Health Care facilities within Birim North District, where 88 service providers (nurses, midwives, and Physician Assistants) from 24 health facilities have been trained to strengthen surveillance, diagnosis, and management of STIs. The six-day outreach training ended on 17th October, 2025.

Managing STIs effectively is very important to limit the spread of HIV and reduce risk of complications such as urethral stricture, infertility, cancers, birth complications and deaths.

"Repeated or recurrent STIs keep the immune system highly active and therefore speed up HIV replication."

The goal of the training is to build capacity of service providers to manage clients who come to them with STI using the Syndromic Management Approach.

This knowledge enhancement training would not have been possible without the technical support of HIV/AIDS Network (GHANET) and HIV/AIDS Control Programme (NACP).
