Disability Pride is more than a celebration; it is a movement.

It is resistance against ableism, a demand for accessibility, and a declaration that every person living with a disability has equal worth, dignity, rights, and power. Disability is not something to be hidden or pitied. It is a natural part of human diversity, and our identities deserve to be embraced with pride.
This year's Disability Pride Month theme, "The World Works Better With Us", reminds us of a simple but powerful truth: our societies are stronger when people living with disabilities are fully included, not as an afterthought but as leaders, innovators, advocates, creators, and decision-makers. Inclusion is not charity. Accessibility is not a favour. They are matters of justice and human rights. We are not invisible. We are not burdens. We are experts in our own lives, and our lived experiences bring perspectives that make the world more compassionate, more innovative, and more equitable for everyone.

Disability Pride is about challenging the systems, attitudes, and barriers that exclude us. It is about demanding policies that protect our rights, environments that are accessible by design, and opportunities that allow every person living with a disability to thrive without having to fight for their humanity. As disability rights activist Judith Heumann famously said, "Disability only becomes a tragedy when society fails to provide the things we need to lead our lives." Her words continue to remind us that the greatest barriers are not our impairments, but the discrimination and inaccessibility that limit participation.
This Disability Pride Month, let us move beyond awareness to action. Challenge ableism wherever it exists. Advocate for accessibility in every space. Listen to disabled voices. Amplify disabled leadership. Build communities where everyone belongs.

The world works better with us, not despite our disabilities, but because our diversity, resilience, creativity, and leadership make it stronger.
Nothing about us without us. Accessibility is a right. Inclusion is justice. Disability Pride is power. 💙♿

Positive Action Initiative Ghana is inviting committed professionals to join our Advisory Board as we strengthen our leadership structure and deepen our impact in empowering sexual and gender minorities living with disabilities.

We are seeking individuals with experience or strong interest in human rights and social justice, disability inclusion, and sexual and gender minority advocacy. Advisory Board Members will provide strategic guidance, enhance our visibility, and support key areas such as advocacy, health, policy, communication, and fundraising.

Opportunity alert for emerging leaders ages 25–45

The Youth for Peace: UNESCO Leadership Programme supports emerging leaders (ages 25–45) in using intercultural dialogue to address global challenges.

The 2025 theme — “Learning to Collaborate for a Shared Future” — focuses on fostering social cohesion in a world on the move.

Selected participants will receive online training, a USD 10,000 grant to implement a community project, mentorship and peer learning, a seat at the Global Youth Dialogue for Peace in Guangzhou, China (April 2026), as well as continued engagement through UNESCO’s Global Alumni Network.
