In many rural communities, children struggle not because they lack intelligence, but because they lack access.
No libraries.
No age-appropriate books.
No digital tools.
No safe, quiet spaces to learn.
Literacy is more than decoding words. It builds confidence, protects dignity, and opens doors to opportunity. When children read well, they stay in school longer, are less vulnerable to exploitation, and begin to see possibilities beyond poverty.
Yet in rural Ghana, basic reading proficiency remains a serious challenge.
This year, we are taking decisive action and commitment to scale our Books for Rural Schools Initiative to reach 50,000 rural children across 100 schools with the reading and learning materials they need to thrive.
