Asogli State Crowned Yam Festival 2025 with Grand Durbar

Ho, October 4, 2025 – The Asogli State has once again etched its name in the cultural calendar of Ghana as it crowned this year’s Yam Festival with a majestic Grand Durbar at the Ho Jubilee Park on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The event brought together traditional rulers, government officials, dignitaries, and tourists from across the country and beyond, all to witness the beauty of Eʋe heritage and unity.
The Asogli Yam Festival, an annual celebration of thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest, reached its climax with the durbar, which showcased rich cultural displays, traditional drumming and dancing, and the colorful pageantry of chiefs and queen mothers in full regalia.
The park came alive with a procession of chiefs carried in palanquins, flanked by drummers and dancers in traditional kente and smocks, symbolizing authority and ancestral pride. Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, in his keynote address, stressed on unity, development, and the preservation of cultural values in contemporary society.
Dignitaries including The Vice President, Prof. Jane Nana Opku-Agyemang, Mr. Samuel Ampofo (political advisor to the Vice President), Mr. Alex Segbefia, Chif of Staff - office of the Vice President, Capt. (Rtd) George Nfojoh (Ambassador to Togo), Mr. Kwame Agbodza (Minister of Roads and Highways), Dr. Johnson Asiama (Governor of Bank of Ghana), diplomatic missions, and corporate bodies graced the occasion, pledging support towards regional development and cultural preservation.
Visitors and tourists experienced authentic Eʋe traditions through music and dance, reaffirming the festival’s role as a major attraction on the Ghanaian cultural calendar.
The Yam Festival is not just a celebration of agriculture but also a reaffirmation of identity, unity, and gratitude. It binds the people of Asogli together while showcasing the Volta Region as a beacon of cultural pride and tourism potential.
As the sun set over the Jubilee Park, the rhythms of drums and the vibrant colors of tradition reminded all present that the Asogli Yam Festival is more than an event – it is a living heritage that continues to inspire unity and cultural pride in Ghana and beyond.
