We were honored to welcome Rory from Sustainable Design Studios to Ghana, who taught us how to work with the injection molding machine and shared key insights about different types of plastics and how to recycle them properly.

With that knowledge, the Buy Food with Plastic team was able to produce new materials like comb products, plastic beads, and even sunglasses.

We’re truly grateful for this learning experience, and believe that every piece of plastic has potential when managed thoughtfully. Together, we keep learning, recycling, and creating a more sustainable future. .studio

What if plastic waste could become a source of hope? 💚

Through our Plastic Exchange Initiative, we were able to provide warm, nutritious meals to about 350 people, simply by exchanging plastic waste for food.

♻️ Bring 20 or more plastic bottles or other recyclable plastics, and you receive a warm meal.

It’s more than just an exchange. It’s a practical solution to two major challenges affecting our communities: hunger and plastic pollution.

By collecting plastic that could otherwise end up on our streets, in drains, rivers, oceans, and other natural environments, we are helping to keep our communities cleaner and protecting ecosystems from the long-term effects of plastic pollution.

The plastics collected can be sorted, processed, and recycled into new materials, reducing the need for virgin resources and helping to build a more circular economy. 🌱♻️

At the same time, families and individuals can turn something often considered worthless plastic waste into something essential: a warm and nourishing meal. 🍲❤️

Every bottle collected is one less piece of plastic in nature.
Every meal served is one more person supported.
Every exchange is a step toward a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.

One woman’s determination turned discarded plastic into a truckload of hope. ♻️💚

She kept collecting, one bottle at a time, until the amount of plastic she gathered was enough to fill an entire truck. And that wasn’t even all of it we had to make a second trip to take everything away!

What may look like “just plastic” is actually a step toward a cleaner environment, a healthier community, and a better future. Every bottle collected is one less piece of plastic left to pollute our streets, gutters, oceans, and communities.

Her commitment reminds us that change doesn’t always start with a big crowd. Sometimes, it starts with one person who decides to take action.

And when that one action is multiplied, the impact can fill a truck and even require a second trip. 🚛♻️

Turning Waste Into a Symbol of Change ♻️🌍

What if something we often throw away could become something meaningful? 🤔♻️

For this project, I took something as simple as plastic bottle tops and transformed them into the Buy Food with Plastic logo — turning discarded materials into a powerful symbol of sustainability, creativity, and change.

This is the beauty of upcycling. It is about looking at what others may consider waste and asking, “What else can this become?” Instead of allowing these bottle tops to end up in gutters, drains, landfills, or nature, we gave them a new purpose and a new story.

Every bottle top used in this design represents a reminder that waste is not always worthless. With creativity, imagination, and the right approach, materials can be given a second life. ♻️✨

Upcycling goes beyond simply reusing an item. It challenges us to rethink our relationship with the things we consume and throw away. It encourages us to reduce waste, conserve resources, protect our environment, and create solutions from materials that already exist.

At Buy Food with Plastic, we believe every piece of plastic counts. From collecting plastics from communities to exchanging them for food and creating awareness about plastic pollution, our goal is to keep plastic in the circular economy and out of nature.

And this logo made entirely from bottle tops is a small but powerful example of that message:

What we call waste today could become part of the solution tomorrow.

Every bottle has value, and every person behind it has a story. For this incredible woman, collecting plastic is about more than income. It’s about protecting her community from plastic pollution, preventing clogged drains that can lead to flooding, and creating a cleaner environment for future generations. At the same time, the income she earns through our buy-back project helps her support and care for her family. Her story reminds usthat recycling changes lives in more ways than one. It keeps plastic out of nature, strengthens communities, and turns waste into opportunity.’

Building the future of recycling, together. A strong recycling system starts with the right infrastructure. During our visit to Switzerland, we had the opportunity to speak with the architect leading the plans for our upcoming Material Recovery Facility, MRF. It was encouraging to hear that the project is progressing well, and that productive discussions have already taken place with our Country Manager and Deputy Manager. This MRF will be more than just a building. It’s a commitment to reducing plastic pollution, creating jobs, and protecting the environment for future generations. Together, we are turning vision into action.

From Ghana to Germany, we proudly shared the mission of Buy Food With Plastic Ghana at the Festival. It was truly inspiring to travel with our Swiss partners and connect with people who are passionate about creating a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Seeing so many people engage with our message and learn about the importance of recycling was a beautiful and unforgettable experience. Sustainability is not just a concept—it is a shared responsibility. Every plastic bottle collected is one less piece of waste polluting our environment, and every action we take today helps build a better tomorrow.

This journey reminded us that real change happens when communities come together with a common purpose. Together, we can transform waste into opportunity, protect our planet, and create a future where sustainability becomes a way of life.
