IYD2026:

Still on the International Youth Day Celebration, we highlight activities from the Bono Region. ActionAid Ghana, alongside youth-led organisations and civil society partners, commemorated International Youth Day 2026 with the maiden Bono Youth Summit—creating a space where young people moved beyond conversation to innovation, accountability and action.

Organised by the Young Urban Women’s Movement (YUWM) and Activista, in collaboration with a consortium of civil society organisations and youth groups across the Bono and Ahafo regions, the summit brought together young people from the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regions to dialogue on critical issues affecting their lives and futures.

Discussions focused on how technology, innovation and strategic partnerships could be leveraged to address youth unemployment, climate change and leadership challenges while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

A key highlight was a panel engagement with young entrepreneurs and social activists, who showcased practical, youth-led innovations

Beyond dialogue, the Bono Youth Summit provided a platform for youth voice, participation, accountability and collective action. It is envisioned as an annual space where young people, government, civil society, development partners and other stakeholders can co-create actionable solutions to advance youth development across the Bono enclave.

For ActionAid Ghana, meaningful youth participation is central to building inclusive, resilient and just communities where young people are not only beneficiaries of development, but active agents of change.When young people have the space, tools and partnerships to lead, they can transform challenges into opportunities.

International Youth Day 2026
ActionAid Ghana’s Upper West Regional Programme (UWRP) commemorated International Youth Day 2026 through a series of radio programmes held across Wa Municipal, Jirapa Municipal, Sissala East Municipal and Lambussie District.

The programmes explored the theme, “Bridging the Gap Between Ghana’s Youthful Population and Meaningful Economic Opportunities,” and provided a platform for discussions on creating sustainable economic opportunities and pathways for young people.

The panel discussions featured representatives from Young Urban Women's Movement, Activista Ghana, the National Youth Authority (NYA) and Youth Parliament, who shared perspectives on youth participation, leadership and economic empowerment.

Through these engagements, ActionAid Ghana continued to amplify youth voices and promote meaningful youth participation in conversations shaping their future.

Women-Led Climate Solutions | Strengthening Community Resilience

Under the Improved Resilience of Coastal Communities (IRCC) Project, funded by the Adaptation Fund, we recognise women as key actors, leaders and agents of change in advancing locally led climate action.

As consortium partners, we are supporting coastal communities to strengthen women’s leadership, local knowledge and inclusive approaches to climate adaptation. By creating space for women to participate meaningfully in decision-making and lead community-driven solutions, we are contributing to more equitable, resilient and climate-responsive communities.

Today, we look back on the memories we share with our women's groups in Dzita. Their commitment and hard work echo that women are not only affected by climate change; they are leading solutions, shaping resilience and driving transformation.

As we commemorate International Youth Day 2026, ActionAid Ghana joins young people, civil society, government, traditional authorities, development partners and communities around the world to reflect on this year’s theme: “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

While young people experience different realities depending on where they live, their aspirations are remarkably similar — dignity, decent work, quality education, equality, meaningful participation and a sustainable future.

Across Ghana, young people continue to demonstrate resilience, creativity and leadership in addressing challenges in their communities. Yet many still face barriers to decent livelihoods, skills development, participation in decision-making and opportunities to shape policies that affect their lives.

At ActionAid Ghana, we believe that sustainable development and social justice require young people to be active participants in shaping solutions, not merely recipients of them. Through our work with youth movements, including Activista Ghana and the Young Urban Women's Movement (YUWM), and Young Female Platforms Alumni - YFP, we support young people to organise, advocate for their rights, demand accountability and drive transformative change.

This International Youth Day, we call on government, development partners, civil society, the private sector and communities to strengthen investment in young people and create meaningful spaces for their leadership and participation. Different contexts may shape young people's experiences, but their aspirations for dignity, opportunity, equality and a sustainable future connect us all.

World Day Against Witch Hunts -August 10.
Every accusation of witchcraft that leads to violence, abuse or exclusion is a violation of human dignity. The evidence from Ghana shows that witchcraft accusations continue to expose vulnerable people—particularly women, children and older persons—to serious harm.

Ending this injustice requires more than condemnation; it demands stronger protection, public education, accountability and community action to ensure that no one is punished for a belief they cannot control

Safeguarding the future of Ghana's cocoa sector begins with safeguarding the rights and dignity of every child.

Through the ARCCLG Project funded The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply and the Postcode Lottery Trust Fund. ActionAid Ghana is addressing the root causes of child labour in cocoa growing communities by creating awareness on child rights,, strengthening household resilience, and supporting community-led solutions that create safe, inclusive, and child-friendly cocoa-growing communities.

Building Stronger Voices for Social Justice 📢
At ActionAid Ghana, we believe that meaningful change is only possible when the growth and capacity of our stakeholders are intentionally strengthened.

As a social justice organisation, we are committed to investing in the people and movements that amplify the voices of communities. This includes our valued media partners and movement groups, who play a critical role in advancing public discourse and driving accountability. In the Upper West Region, AAG and partners have been on the forefront of amplifying voices of communities.

Through our recent Advocacy and Anti-Racist Reporting Capacity Building, we engaged participants in exploring emerging digital advocacy trends, ethical storytelling, and the principles of anti-racist reporting. Together, we reflected on how responsible, inclusive, and rights-based communication can strengthen advocacy for social justice and systems change.

Building the capacity of our partners is an investment in stronger narratives, informed public engagement, and collective action towards a more just and equitable society.

Over the past five days, we have implemented a series of strategic advocacy, community engagement, and media outreach activities under the Adaptation Fund -supported Improved Resilience of Coastal Communities (IRCC) Project in Ghana to mark World Mangroves Day 2026.

From Dzita in the Anloga District, through Wokumagbe (Okorli Fm and Eagle) in the Ada West District, and onto the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GTV), our engagements elevated national conversations on the urgent need to restore mangrove ecosystems as a critical nature-based solution for climate adaptation and resilient coastal livelihoods.

Through evidence-based storytelling, community voices, and strategic media partnerships, we amplified the experiences of women, fisherfolk, and coastal communities who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Their stories reinforce that locally led action, supported by strong partnerships and sustained investment, is essential to building climate resilience and protecting vulnerable ecosystems.

Together with our consortium partners— Habitat for Humanity Africa, UN-HABITAT, the University of Twente, government institutions, traditional authorities, community volunteers, and the media—we are increasing public awareness, influencing action, and advancing collective efforts towards sustainable coastal ecosystem restoration.

Building resilient coastal communities requires more than restoring mangroves; it demands inclusive partnerships, community leadership, and sustained commitment to climate justice.
