They were captured and chained.
They were enslaved and killed.
They were stripped of their names, their culture, their traditions, their history.

Generations lost their languages, their identities, their freedom.
And yet, the memory of their suffering lives on in us.

They told us to forget.
They told us “Old things have passed away.”
But how can we forget, when the scars of slavery and colonialism still mark our existence?

We remember.
We honor them.
And we will never forget what was done to our ancestors.
