Alliance of Women in Agriculture and Rural Development in Ghana (AWARD Ghana)

1. Introduction: The Alliance of Women in Agriculture and Rural Development in Ghana (AWARD Ghana) is a transformative initiative under the Cooperative Agency for Research and Development (CARD). AWARD Ghana is committed to promoting gender equality, empowering women in agriculture, ensuring food security, fostering peace, and advancing sustainable rural development. Through the Sustainable Livelihood and Economic Empowerment for Program (SLEEP), aims to peace and unity, gender equality and social Inclusion among rural communities, women and youth for sustable Development. AWARD Ghana provides rural women with opportunities to enhance their aricultural productivity, engage in agribusiness, and contribute to community development.
2. Mission: To empower women in agriculture and rural development by providing them with the resources, training, and networks needed to achieve sustainable livelihoods, economic independence, and social cohesion.
3. Vision: A Ghana where women play a central role in agriculture, rural development, and food security, leading to peace, unity, and poverty eradication.
4. Objectives
a. Promote gender equality in agriculture and rural development.
b. Empower women through agribusiness and sustainable farming practices.
c. Enhance food security and agricultural productivity.
d. Strengthen women’s networks for knowledge sharing, resource mobilization, and policy advocacy.
e. Promote peace, unity, and economic empowerment among rural women.
f. Foster partnerships with donor organizations, philanthropists, and development agencies.
5. Current Initiatives & Impact:- In the Chereponi District of the North East Region of Ghana, members of AWARD Ghana have shown remarkable commitment toward achieving its objectives through:
1. Agri Growth Estate (AGE) Development: 4 acres of land allocated for four women’s groups (totaling 60 members) to engage in agricultural production.
2. Agribusiness & Trade: Over 450 members from 30 groups involved in agri-processing and trade across the Chereponi District.
These initiatives serve as a model for sustainable agriculture and rural development, demonstrating the power of women-led agricultural transformation.
6. Membership:- AWARD Ghana is open to:
A. Women’s organizations engaged in agriculture and rural/community development.
B. Agriculture and rural development experts who support gender-inclusive agricultural policies and practices.
7. Funding & Support:- AWARD Ghana operates on a collective responsibility funding model, including:
A. Contributions from members.
B. Support from donor and charity organizations.
C. Funding from individual philanthropists and governments.
We appeal to donor organizations, philanthropists, and stakeholders to support this impactful, life-changing initiative to achieve poverty eradication, sustainable development, and global development goals.
8. AWARD as a Global Network: Beyond Ghana, AWARD serves as a global network of Individual Women’s Organizations and Experts (IWOEs) dedicated to:
A. Gender equality in agriculture.
B. Women’s empowerment in agribusiness and food production.
C. Resource mobilization for rural development.
