The building shown in the image is located at 90-20 191st Street in Hollis, Queens, New York. It originally housed the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity before converted into a mosque.
Today, it is known as Masjid ‘Eesa ibn Maryam (which translates from Arabic to "Jesus, Son of Mary Mosque") and serves as a prominent Muslim community center in Queens.
About the Name and SignificanceWhy the name?
In Islam, Jesus PBUH (known in Arabic as ‘Eesa (A.S) is revered as one of the most important prophets of God, and his mother Mary (Maryam) PBUH is highly honored, even having an entire chapter of the Quran named after her.
The mosque was intentionally given this name to foster interfaith understanding and highlight the shared lineage between Christianity and Islam.
Current Status: The facility is managed under the umbrella of the NYC Muslim Center. It provides daily prayers, youth programming, and essential community services like a weekly food pantry.
