Today is World Hepatitis Day! and we have reason for hope. 🌍
Hepatitis B is one of the most common chronic infections in Ghana. It is also the leading cause of liver cancer and it is responsible for the majority of cases we see across the country.
However, Hepatitis B is preventable. It is testable. And it is manageable.
A safe, effective vaccine has existed for decades. A simple blood test can identify those living with the virus.
The path to reducing liver cancer in Ghana runs directly through Hepatitis B prevention and early detection. Every person who knows their status gains the power to protect themselves and their family. Every child who receives a birth-dose Hepatitis B vaccine is a future liver cancer case prevented.
At the Liver Cancer Foundation, Ghana, this is at the heart of what we do, that is, bringing testing, education, and advocacy to the communities that need it most.
