Richard Adikyere, a mason has been sentenced to life imprisonment for robbing and murdering the Assembly member for Sogakope, Mawuli Adzahli five years ago. Two of Adikyere's accomplices also received 47 years each, whiles four others were sentenced to 15 years each. In 2020, Hedzro, one of the accomplices informed Adikyere about a wealthy man who happened to be the assemblyman. Hedzro then asked Adikyere to recruit others to rob the assemblyman. After recruiting the other accomplices, they broke into the deceased's home using cement blocks and attacked him. Armed with a pump action and pistols, Adikyere, the ringleader shot the assemblyman three times, killing him instantly before fleeing with a large amount of money. During interrogation, Adikyere admitted to killing the assemblyman with a pump action gun he stole during an earlier robbery. Why will you kill a human being for their money? Could drugs be the underlying trigger for these horrendous crimes? This is barbaric! I guess the sentences for the accomplices should have been life imprisonment too.

Mawuena Tamakloe, a 24-year-old woman has been sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment for stealing a Hisense 4K TV belonging to The Church of Pentecost at the Teshie Military Barracks. Mawuena had escaped while she was been returned to the police station but was apprehended during a chase. It is reported that the young woman, carrying a TV box out of the barracks, was spotted by Military officers who interrogated her. Her explanation did not satisfy the officers who handed her over to the Military police. She confessed to stealing the TV from one of the Church's offices and was subsequently handed over to the police. Further interrogation revealed that the convict damaged the head pastor's office which she admitted to. The Presiding Judge of an Accra Circuit Court who sentenced Mawuena, took into consideration her age, her status as a first-time offender, her plea for leniency, and the cost of the item which valued at Ghc 8,900. What do you make of the considerations? Must they inform the length of a sentence?
