A major step for press freedom and journalist safety in West Africa has just concluded in Accra.

The Whistleblowers, Activists and Journalists Safety International Center (WAJSIC) successfully completed a three-day training on investigative journalism and safety for its resident journalists on May 14, 2026. Supported by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana and the Open Society Foundations, the workshop brought together participants from Ghana and several Francophone countries—both in person and online.

Whistleblowers Activist and Journalists safety international centre is healing the healers. Restoring those who risk everything for the truth. 🧠🕊️

The Whistleblowers, Activists and Journalists Safety International Center (WAJSIC), with support from the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana, has held a three-day intensive mental health workshop for residents in hiding.

Facilitated by clinical psychologist Dr. Rita Appiah-Danquah, the workshop focused on trauma, PTSD, emotional resilience, forgiveness, and breaking the cycle of violence.

One participant—a radio presenter attacked and shot in the hand—shared how the workshop transformed his desire for vengeance into emotional recovery:

"My intention was that when I recover from here, I am going back to the battlefield. But per the topics we have gone through, it has washed all those things from my mind."

They fled for their lives. Now they are learning to live again.

A critical step toward safety for those who speak truth to power. 🛡️

The Whistleblowers, Activists and Journalist Safety International Center (WAJSIC) has hosted a delegation from GIZ Ghana for a Commercial and Legal Eligibility (KEP) assessment.

This milestone marks a critical step toward securing a grant to expand WAJSIC's protection and support for at-risk journalists, activists, and whistleblowers. During the visit, WAJSIC also showcased its 'Sankofa Project'—an initiative that monitors repatriated residents and tracks their progress after their stay.

🤝 We look forward to continued collaboration!

MAY 3 –
Whistleblowers, Activists and Journalists Safety International Center (WAJSIC) declaration.
May 3 is not just a commemoration. It is a reminder of the cost of courage, of the weight of enforced silence, and of the vital necessity of a free press in any society that aspires to dignity and justice.

On this World Press Freedom Day, the Whistleblowers, Activists and Journalists Safety International Center (WAJSIC) pays tribute to all those who, often at the risk of their freedom, their safety, and even their lives, continue to inform, investigate, and expose wrongdoing. Their commitment is the foundation of any true democracy.
