Exactly a week ago, the Africa Centre for Nature-Based Climate Action (AC4NCA) partnered with the University of Ghana for the 2026 Scientific Day of Renaissance for Africa High-Level Public Lecture under the auspices of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo

The keynote address by Balla Moussa SIDIBE, Regional Director for IUCN West and Central Africa, and an insightful panel featuring Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, Emerita Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu, and Prof. John Gyapong reinforced a powerful message: Nature-Based Solutions are central to Africa's climate resilience and sustainable development.

The conversation also underscored the need for innovative climate finance, stronger partnerships, and collective action to unlock Africa's natural capital.

A keynote lecture delivered by Balla Moussa SIDIBE, Regional Director for IUCN West and Central Africa (UICN Afrique Occidentale et Centrale) on theme - Can Nature-Based Solutions Deliver Climate Resilience, Jobs, Equity and Justice?

The high-level panel brought together leading scholars and experts - Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, Emerita Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu and Prof John Gyapong to explore how science, biodiversity conservation, and Nature-Based Solutions can accelerate Africa's sustainable development.

A key message from the discussion was clear: Africa must diversify climate finance beyond traditional funding sources. Innovative mechanisms such as carbon markets, blended finance, green bonds, and stronger private sector investment will be critical to scaling Nature-Based Solutions across the continent.

Equally important is collaboration. Governments, academia, the private sector, civil society, development partners, and local communities must work together to unlock Africa's immense natural capital and build a resilient, prosperous future.

At AC4NCA, we remain committed to driving partnerships, knowledge, and action that place Nature-Based Solutions at the heart of Africa's climate and development agenda.

We convened a high-level Nature-Talks Soirée, bringing together diplomats, senior government officials, academics, development partners, and climate advocates for an evening focused on advancing nature-based solutions across the continent.

The gathering underscored growing momentum around collaborative climate action in Africa, particularly as countries confront escalating environmental challenges.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the European Union in Ghana Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Rune Skinnebach; the Embassy of Denmark in Ghana Ambassador, H. E Jakob Linulf; the Deputy Head of Missions at the Turkish Embassy in Ghana, H. E Dilara Cesar; the Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority, Ghana Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse; Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon Prof Gordon Awandare; H.E Silje Samanthi Vevante, Counsellor Royal Norwegian Embassy in Accra; Ms. Victoria Situ, Forests and Climate Advisor, UK in Ghana and Mrs Pearl Esua-Mensah, CEO of Ghana Climate Innovation Center

Senior Representatives from UNDP Ghana, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources - Ghana, Ministry of Environment, Ghana Forestry Commission and Water Resources Commission were also present.
