The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive development through a financial donation to the "More Hope for Disabled Foundation," aimed at empowering persons with disabilities.

The presentation ceremony was held on Wednesday, 25th March 2026, at the Foundation's headquarters in Teshie, bringing together members of the Foundation and representatives of the Authority.

Delivering the welcome address, the President of the Foundation, Mr. Joseph Odey Mensah, expressed profound appreciation to the NPA for its continued support. He highlighted the Foundation's mission of promoting entrepreneurship and self-reliance among persons with disabilities.

He noted that a previous donation of GHS 50,000 received on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities had been effectively utilized to equip selected beneficiaries with tools for income-generating activities. These included trading inventory, a printer, electrical equipment, a container store, a polytank, and an industrial sewing machine.

Speaking on behalf of the NPA, Ms. Natasha Boakye, CSR Supervisor at the Corporate Affairs Directorate, commended the resilience and determination of the Foundation and its members. She reaffirmed the Authority's commitment to initiatives that promote inclusion and enhance economic empowerment for vulnerable groups.

The event also featured the presentation of items to beneficiaries, underscoring the tangible impact of the support and the NPA'S dedication to fostering sustainable and community-driven growth.

Equity, Not Equality: Building Inclusive Futures for Persons with Disabilities

Understanding the Difference
- Equality means giving everyone the same resources or opportunities. It assumes that identical treatment leads to fairness.
- Equity means recognizing that people start from different positions and face different barriers. It ensures that support is tailored so each person can reach their full potential.

For persons with disabilities, equality might look like providing the same classroom, workplace, or healthcare setting as everyone else. Equity, however, ensures that those spaces are accessible, adaptive, and responsive to individual needs.

---

Why Equity Matters
1. Acknowledging Diversity of Disabilities
Disabilities are not uniform. A wheelchair user, a person with hearing loss, and someone with a learning disability all face distinct challenges. Equity ensures that each receives the right form of support.

2. Removing Barriers
Equality may open the door, but equity makes sure the person can walk through it. This means addressing physical barriers (like stairs), communication barriers (like lack of sign language interpretation), and attitudinal barriers (like stigma).

3. Empowering Participation
Equity is about more than access—it’s about meaningful involvement. A person with a disability should not only be present in school or work but also be able to contribute fully and confidently.

---

Examples of Equity in Practice
- Education: Providing assistive technology, individualized learning plans, and accessible materials.
- Employment: Offering flexible schedules, adaptive equipment, and workplace accommodations.
- Healthcare: Training staff to communicate effectively with patients who have diverse needs and ensuring facilities are accessible.
- Community Life: Designing public spaces with universal accessibility while also offering personalized support where needed.

---

Conclusion
Equality treats everyone the same

Jesus Christ once said in Matthew 25:31-46

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me
