Last week, members of our Twi community, alongside their project lead, Miss Jemima, had the honour of attending the Language Diversity Conference in Accra.

The conference provided an opportunity to connect with other Wikimedia language communities, exchange ideas, and reflect on how we can make free knowledge more accessible in our languages while preserving and sharing the knowledge, cultures, and stories of our communities.

We are proud to see our community members learning, building connections, and contributing to conversations that advance open knowledge and language diversity.

Last Thursday, we spent an engaging session with the Effutu community exploring the power of Wikisource to preserve knowledge that has lived for years in books, journals, court records, and other printed sources.

Participants worked on digitising historical cases, including land disputes, Court of Appeal cases, and criminal cases, while learning the importance of attention to detail, careful proofreading, and understanding copyright considerations in Ghana.

A special spotlight goes to Jennifer,Jennifer Pinto a member of the Effutu community who stepped forward to facilitate the workshop and share her knowledge with fellow community members.

Her contribution reflects what we believe at GOIF, our communities have knowledge, skills, and leadership waiting to be discovered. We create spaces for members to build confidence, share what they know, and explore abilities they may not have recognised in themselves before.

We are not just preserving knowledge. We are empowering the people who preserve it.

A big thank you to Jennifer, the Effutu community, and everyone who participated for making the session meaningful and impactful.

Today, we remember Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who led the Gold Coast’s drive for independence and became Ghana’s first Prime Minister and later President.

But Nkrumah’s story is bigger than a name in a history book.

It is a story of independence. African unity. Education. Development. Self-determination.

His story lives in the monuments we visit, the books we read, the archives we preserve, and the knowledge we continue to share.

At GOIF, we believe that remembering history also means making it accessible.

A Moment of Recognition. A Celebration of Community.
On Saturday, August 29, we celebrated a milestone that means much more to us than an award.

We joined the Sustainable Development Excellence Awards 2026 (SDEA) hosted by the , where our Executive Director, Miss Harriet Bayel, was honoured with an award and citation for her outstanding dedication to empowering women and advancing inclusive development.

Our Programs Manager, Mr. Abdul Fatai Mustapha, was also honoured with a citation in recognition of his immense contribution through service, leadership, and advancing social development. 

We dedicate these recognitions to the entire GOIF team and our wider community. 

They reflect what we are building together, a community grounded in open knowledge, inclusion, service, and creating spaces where everyone can learn, contribute, and thrive.
