This week, I had the privilege of joining Sweet Melodies FM in collaboration with IRead Ghana to speak on two powerful topics “children’s safety and the role of reading in building peace and unity”.
Reading is more than just a habit, it is a foundation for life. Through books, our children learn values like love, loyalty, forgiveness, kindness , sharing , good communication skills , humility, and collaboration. Reading also keeps their minds sharp, makes them alert to danger, and creates a spirit of unity when children read together. These values help them cultivate peaceful behaviors shaping a generation that reduces and even eliminates conflicts and violence in our society.
Alongside that, I shared some safety tips every parent should teach their child:
•Never take gifts from strangers.
•Memorize parents’ contacts and national emergency numbers.
•Do not share personal details with classmates or strangers.
•Obey school rules and regulations, they are for your safety.
•Learn to recognize unsafe or inappropriate behavior to avoid exploitation.
Imagine a future where children grow up not only safe and smart but also united and peaceful. that future begins with the steps we take today. Let’s make reading and safety part of their daily lives. Edna Azumah Aninga
