A new chapter for climate resilience begins.

We are excited to celebrate the official launch of the Financing Locally Led Action for Resilient Ecosystems (FLARE) Project supported by the Water Justice Fund and the opening of the call for proposals for the Climate Resilient WASH Financing Mechanism in Bolgatanga.

This milestone is about more than launching a project. It is about investing in communities to lead their own climate solutions, empowering women as leaders of change, and supporting innovative ideas that will strengthen resilience where it is needed most.

The launch also inspired strong commitments from district leaders to improve water and irrigation infrastructure, demonstrating that lasting change happens when communities, government and partners work together.

To everyone who joined us and to our partners who continue to make this possible, thank you. Together, we are building stronger, healthier and more climate-resilient communities.

Change starts with local leadership. Change starts with water.

Communities already hold the solutions to their climate and water challenges. They need the right support to bring those solutions to life.

Richard Ntibrey, Programme Lead for WASH and Climate Change, shares the vision behind the Climate Resilient WASH Financing Mechanism (CRWFM), a fund supporting locally led climate-resilient WASH solutions across five districts in Ghanaโ€™s Upper East Region.

Through three grant streams, CRWFM is investing in community-driven action:

๐Ÿ“Š Ghana's economy is recovering. That is good news for everyone.

But as we celebrate stronger growth and improving public finances, we must also ask an important question.

Who is speaking for water and sanitation?

The 2026 Mid Year Fiscal Policy Review dedicates significant attention to energy, roads, agriculture, education and health. Yet water, sanitation and hygiene appear only in the context of flood response, with no dedicated investment plan for expanding access to safe water or sanitation services.
Floods should not be the only time water enters our national budget conversation.

Safe water and sanitation are not emergency issues. They are economic issues, health issues, climate issues and human dignity issues.

As Ghana prepares the 2027 Budget, this is the opportunity to invest proactively instead of paying repeatedly for preventable crises.

A stronger economy should mean stronger investment where it matters most.

Because every Ghanaian deserves access to safe water and decent sanitation.

Clean health facilities save lives.

That is why WaterAid Ghana has handed over essential hygiene, sanitation and infection prevention supplies to health facilities in Bongo District through the WASH Nutrition Plus Project.

These resources will help health workers maintain cleaner and safer healthcare environments, strengthen infection prevention and control practices, and improve WASH and nutrition services for expectant mothers, nursing women, adolescent girls and children under five.

Behind every disinfectant, glove, waste bin and cleaning supply is a simple but powerful goal: protecting lives and ensuring that every person who walks into a health facility receives care in a safe and dignified environment.

The WASH Nutrition Plus Project was facilitated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and accepted and funded by Latter-day Saint Charities Australia.

Together, we are building stronger health systems and healthier communities because good health begins with clean water, decent sanitation and good hygiene.

A budget is only as powerful as its implementation.

Ahead of Ghana's 2026 Mid Year Budget Review, our Head of Strategy, Policy and Campaigns, Ibrahim Musah, is calling on Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson to accelerate the release of funds already allocated to the WASH sector.

Ghana has made bold commitments through the Presidential WASH Compact. Now is the time to turn those promises into action so every community can access clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene.

Because every delay means more families waiting for services they deserve.

As Africa prepares its common position ahead of the 2026 UN Water Conference, this is a question we cannot afford to overlook.

For generations, African women have managed water in their homes and communities. They know what it means to give birth in health facilities without clean water. They understand the daily cost of unsafe sanitation. They are often the first to experience the impacts of climate change on water security.

Yet, too often, their voices remain absent where the biggest decisions are made.

This Africa Women's Day, WaterAid is bringing together women leaders, grassroots organisations, health professionals and advocates from across the continent to help shape a collective call to action for African governments and the African Union ahead of UN Water Conference 2026.

Because lasting solutions begin by listening to those living the reality every day.

If Africa's water future is to leave no one behind, African women's voices must help define it.
