Sometimes, a family doesn't need pity.
They need someone to believe that their story can be different.
Meet Efua (name changed to protect her privacy), a 32-year-old mother of six, three girls and three boys, including a set of twin boys.
After leaving a difficult marriage, Efua brought her children to Accra in the hope of giving them a safer and better future.
Today, she works from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., six days a week, earning GHS 50 a day. Despite working incredibly hard, providing for six children remains a daily struggle.
The situation is even more difficult because none of the six children is currently enrolled in school.
Her 14-year-old daughter has also had to work to help the family survive, when she should be in a classroom learning, growing and preparing for her future.
At , we knew we had to do something.
We have already taken an important step:
We have enrolled the family in the Sanctuary for Children's , where we will walk alongside them through both and . As part of the preservation support, all six children have been enrolled on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), helping to safeguard their access to essential healthcare. Through the empowerment component, we will work with their mother to strengthen the family's capacity to achieve stability and build a more sustainable future.
But we know that health insurance alone is not enough.
Now, we are looking for partners and compassionate individuals who can help us take the next steps:

SANCTUARY FOR CHILDREN
Right now, some children in vulnerable Ghanaian communities are heading to school barefoot, using rice sacks as bags, and sharing torn stationery.
With this academic year ending in July and the new term beginning in September, now is the time to help these children start fresh, ready, and with dignity.

Flooding is often discussed in terms of infrastructure damage, economic losses, and environmental impact. However, one of the most significant consequences is often overlooked; the disruption of the family system.
When families are displaced by floods, they face multiple challenges simultaneously:
• Loss of housing and livelihoods
• Increased psychosocial stress
• Interrupted education for children
• Greater risks to child protection and wellbeing
• Strain on family relationships and caregiving capacities
For many families, displacement creates uncertainty that can lead to prolonged family crises long after the floodwaters recede. recognises that emergency response must go beyond relief items. Supporting families to remain together, rebuild stability, and strengthen their caregiving capacity is essential for children's well-being and long-term community resilience.
Strong families create strong communities. Protecting families during disasters is not only humanitarian work—it is an investment in Ghana's future.

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with grateful hearts, celebrating the gift of mothers and caregivers in our lives. We thank You for the love they give so freely, the sacrifices they make daily, and the strength they carry even in moments of weariness.
Lord, we lift up every mother, guardian, and caregiver within Sanctuary For Children and beyond. You have entrusted them with the precious responsibility of nurturing young lives. Fill them with Your wisdom, patience, and grace. When they feel overwhelmed, be their peace. When they feel tired, be their strength. When they feel uncertain, be their guide.
Bless the work of their hands and the love in their hearts. May their homes be filled with joy, understanding, and hope. Let every child under their care feel safe, cherished, and empowered to grow into who You have called them to be.
For those who carry pain, loss, or unfulfilled desires today, Lord, wrap them in Your comforting embrace. Remind them that they are seen, valued, and deeply loved.

🌟 Welcoming James Nii Amar Aryiku to Sanctuary For Children 🌟

We are delighted to announce that James Nii Amar Aryiku has joined the Sanctuary For Children Advisory Board.

James is a dedicated mental health specialist with expertise in community mental health and psychiatric rehabilitation. His work focuses on early identification and intervention, particularly among children and young people, while strengthening mental health support systems within communities and educational settings.

He has a strong interest in integrating mental health into child protection frameworks, promoting family-based care, and advancing youth empowerment through culturally responsive approaches.

As an Advisory Board Member, James will provide strategic guidance on child mental health, program development, and sustainable partnerships—helping us enhance outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

We are honored to announce that Emmanuel Quarshie has joined the Sanctuary For Children governance structure as a member of our Finance, Risk & IT Committee.

Emmanuel is a highly accomplished finance and investment executive with over three decades of leadership experience across asset management, wealth management, insurance, private equity, infrastructure, and advisory services. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (FCA), he also holds an Executive MBA from the University of Ghana Business School and is a Member of the Institute of Directors (Ghana).

Throughout his career, Emmanuel has served in senior executive roles including CEO, CFO, Executive Director, and Managing Consultant, guiding organizations through growth, restructuring, and strategic transformation. His expertise spans financial management, investment strategy, treasury oversight, portfolio management, corporate governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

He has a proven track record of strengthening financial systems, advising boards on capital allocation and investment decisions, and enhancing operational efficiency. His governance experience—serving as Chairman, Board Member, and Audit Committee member in key institutions—underscores his commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound fiduciary oversight.

Emmanuel is recognized for his strategic mindset, analytical rigor, and integrity-driven leadership. He is passionate about mentoring, institutional strengthening, and advancing initiatives that promote sustainable development, social impact, and inclusive growth.
