🌎 Proud of our YCC Colombia community! 💚

As the Platform for Children and Youth, they took part in the Santa Marta Conference on Transitioning Away from Fossil Fuels, standing up for meaningful youth participation at every stage of decision-making, not just limited consultations that go nowhere.

Just transitions require transparent, inclusive, and accountable governance that recognises affected communities and social movements as key political actors. 🤝

We appreciate the Colombian government's initial willingness to co-facilitate with civil society, but real gaps remained: poor communication, youth submissions overlooked, overreliance on AI to synthesize complex policy, too little notice, and no translation services. ⚠️

Effective participation begins with timely access to information, so young people can bring their communities' realities into the conversation. 📣

And through it all, youth solidarity shone. ✨ Initiatives like La Chiva Climática 🚌 fostered collective care, strengthened partnerships, and advanced climate justice while resisting neocolonialism and other forms of injustice. ✊🌱

🌍 Exciting news for our coordination team!

Four members of the Youth Climate Council Alliance have been selected to join YIELD Hub 's Action Learning Cycle, 7-month journey bringing together participants to exchange experiences, reflect on practice, and co-create practical strategies for youth-led and youth-serving organisations.

We're taking part across two tracks:

🔹 Sustainable Financing for Youth-Led Organisations Mudassir Haider, Diego Toledo
🔹 Defending Progress: Strengthening Solidarity & Collective Action (SRHR) Mary Awinimi Ayariga, Margaret Impraim

🌍 Big news for African youth! Green Africa Youth Organization, together with GAYO GHANA Campus Eco-Clubs, the Youth Climate Council Global Alliance (YCCGA), and technical partner UNIDO - United Nations Industrial Development Organization, is hosting a Virtual Youth Consultation on Cement Decarbonization and Green Industrialization in Africa.

📅 Date: 18 June 2026
🕛 Time: 12:00 PM GMT

Africa's cement sector is at a turning point. As one of the largest sources of industrial CO₂ emissions, the path to green industrialization must include the voices, ideas, and energy of young Africans.

This consultation will:
✅ Build your technical knowledge on cement decarbonization
✅ Create space for youth recommendations to shape the Africa Dialogue in Addis Ababa (6–8 July 2026)
✅ Connect with over 300 young Africans across sectors and countries

🌱 🇧🇼World Environment Day in Gamodubu Village, Botswana

Green Africa Youth Organization Botswana joined Gamodubu Civil Society and other stakeholders to commemorate World Environment Day under the theme "Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future."

Community members, learners, and local leaders came together at Gamodubu Primary School for hands-on climate action. Zero Waste sessions covered waste segregation, recycling, composting, sustainable consumption, and brand auditing.

The highlight? The Zero Waste Guardians Enterprise Showcase, where graduates displayed products made from recovered materials, showing that waste really can become a resource.
Living next to Botswana's largest regional landfill, Gamodubu faces real environmental challenges. But this day proved that with practical skills and collective action, communities can turn those challenges into opportunity.

🌱 Young people in Ghana are stepping into the policy room.

📋 Youth Climate Council Ghana held a university training on Ghana's National Adaptation Plan ( ), with participation from UNICEF Ghana Youth Bridge Foundation, the African Group of Negotiators (AGN), and youth advocates from across the country.

✊ This is what impactful climate education looks like. Not just awareness, but real engagement with the frameworks that shape Africa's climate future.

We joined the Skoll World Forum 2026 in Oxford this April to tackle one big question: what does a just green transition look like for Africa? 🌍

We helped lead the conversation on equipping young people and frontline communities to shape it. With 60% of Africa under 25 and up to 3.3 million green jobs possible by 2030, the opportunity is huge. 🌱

🌍Did you know that local governments are responsible for implementing 70% of EU Green Deal legislation?

That eye-opening fact from Lucia Nass of Volt Europaa kicked off one of the most engaging conversations we have hosted at so far.

Yesterday's webinar on Climate Policy as a Shared Responsibility brought together youth climate advocates, researchers, and practitioners from across the globe for a session that covered a lot of ground.

👉Lucia walked us through Volt Europa's vision for an ambitious European climate agenda and made a compelling case for why political change starts at the local level. Prof. Lars Tønder from the Syddansk Universitet – University of Southern Denmark then took us into the heart of what climate democracy actually means when political systems are under pressure, asking hard questions about accountability, fragility, and the role of institutions.

We are genuinely looking forward to continuing to grow this community and expanding these conversations into action.
