Facts Africa is back and our first fact of the year takes us to Africa's most populous country. Nigeria is the world's largest producer of cassava. The country produced 62.7 million tonnes of cassava in 2023. Additional fact: Three (3) of the top five leading producers of cassava in the world are in Africa, DR Congo 2nd and Ghana 4th. Looks like Africa's soil supports cassava cultivation. In 2026, our goal is transformative development, as such, we hope governments and private investors across the continent and in the diaspora will consider investing in processing the commodity into various types of processed or refined products. This will boost both the local economy and also generate extra foreign exchange from exports. Let's know if you would like to invest in cassava cultivation or processing this year or in the near future.

Facts Africa returns this week with another fact which is becoming a major concern from a security perspective. Currently, there are 13 countries with known military bases or presence in Africa. Djibouti alone host about 8 foreign military bases, including the US, France, China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Italy and Germany. Why has Africa become a military play ground for foreign countries. Do you think these military bases constitute some form of interference and contribute to the incessant political instability on the continent? Or these military bases are rather ensuring relative peace and security on the continent?
Kindly share your opinion in the comment section.

Sometimes our attitude makes pushing the African agenda laughable. Slave trade and exploitation (minerals, lumber etc.) for 400 years and our environment was not destroyed this much. The big mining companies came in post-independence created some problems here and there yet never were we at this brink of total environmental collapse. Our own people took charge for once on a large scale and our environment is being destroyed at at rate never seen before particularly our water bodies. So, is the "black man" really capable of managing his own affairs?

Facts Africa returns this week with another interesting fact from North Africa. In 2023 Egypt ranked 5th largest exporter of potatoes globally. The country raked in almost 400million dollars (396.7million) from the sale of potatoes about 1/3rd of the revenue mobilized by the Netherlands ranked 1. However, Egypt was the only African country among the top ten largest exporters of Potatoes. So, if you need potatoes in very large quantities from the continent, you know where to find them.
