The Dilemma of No Bed Syndrome - is it really the case that there are no beds in health facilities in Ghana? In most cases, hospitals do have beds physically present.
The real challenges are that there are;
No ICU/HDU beds
No oxygen points or monitors
No isolation space
No theatre recovery beds and
Overcrowded emergency units.
Nurses and clinicians are usually overwhelmed in the Tertiary Hospitals.

The Ministry of Health should have a structured agreement and convert the private sector into a surge capacity buffer. The Private Health facilities should be able to provide intermediate care, Theatre recovery services and Rehabilitation care. This would allow the Tertiary Hospitals to free up space to be able to admit emergency cases.

The private health sector should not operate parallel to the public system — it must function as an integrated surge-capacity partner in health delivery architecture.
