Why this matters:
Nearly 60% of the municipality is under 25. This camp was a launchpad for learning, transformation, and empowerment.

Proudly powered by STAR-Ghana Foundation in partnership with GhanaThink Foundation, under the Fondation Botnar-funded .

Under the just ended , STAR-Ghana Foundation worked alongside West Africa Centre for Counter-Extremism and Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA) to build a safety net in 12 border communities across Northern Ghana.

Because livelihoods alone aren't enough when the Sahel's security situation threatens radicalization and violent extremist infiltration, we did more:

Women Peace Circles –Women trained as frontline actors in mediation and intelligence sharing with authorities.

Dialogue Platforms – Bringing together community, members, local assembly representatives, security personnel, traditional and religious leaders, and state institutions like the Regional Peace Councils.

The goal? Prevent radicalization. Detect early signs. Protect vulnerable youth from being recruited into violence. Keeping peace.

And the collective impact is evident on the ground where the youth now have livelihood skills and the people understand what it means to have a safe and secured community.

Heartfelt gratitude to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office(FCDO) for funding the

What changes when a young person in a border community moves from " " to "skilled"?

Everything.

In the last 4 months, 944 youth across 12 border communities in the 5 regions of the North have gained in carpentry, welding, smock weaving, tailoring, and electrical installation, hair dressing, soap making, beekeeping, rice parboiling, leather works among others.
256 youth who already had skills but needed support to scale up were also selected and given start up kits to start or expand their businesses, bringing the total number of direct beneficiaries to 1200.

When border communities face -related security pressures, financial independence is about jobs and stability.

During the Project implementation phase, beneficiaries didn't just tell us about change after completing their training, they showed us Furniture, Smocks, Metalwork, Electrical fittings, finished dresses and shirts. All made by hands that once had no tools and skills and at the mercy of violent extremist groups.

Through the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), STAR-Ghana Foundation supported economic empowerment where the Sahel's security situation makes independence a lifeline.
