As Nigeria marks 66 years of independence, we celebrate the resilience and creativity of the Nigerian people.

We also honour the journalists, media practitioners and civil society actors who continue to defend press freedom and strengthen democratic governance across the country.

We have trained 60 journalists, editors and media managers from across Ghana on media law, their rights and avenues for redress.

The workshops in Accra and Kumasi covered defamation, cyber-related offences, risks of arrest and using the Right to Information Act for public-interest reporting.

To support journalists facing legal threats over legitimate reporting, we have also established a GH¢544,000 Legal Support Fund.

Il y a exactement un an, El Hadj Adama Keita, alors âgé de 75 ans, était arraché à son domicile et placé en détention par les autorités guinéennes, qui n'avaient pu arrêter son fils, le journaliste en exil Mamadou Babila Keita.

S'en prendre aux proches pour faire taire les voix critiques est inacceptable. Nous appelons à la libération immédiate et inconditionnelle d'El Hadj Adama Keita et exhortons les autorités à abandonner toutes les poursuites engagées contre Mamadou Babila Keita.

Nous appelons également les organisations de défense des droits humains et les missions diplomatiques à suivre de près la situation et à œuvrer pour que cessent les actes d'intimidation visant la famille du journaliste.

Exactly a year ago, El Hadj Adama Keita, then 75, was taken from his home and detained by Guinean authorities because they could not arrest his son, exiled journalist Mamadou Babila Keita.

We condemn the targeting of family members as a means of silencing critics.

We also call for the immediate and unconditional release of El Hadj Adama Keita and urge the authorities to drop all proceedings against Mamadou Babila Keita.
