Media Foundation for West Africa(MFWA) The Media Foundation for West Africa is a regional independent, non-profit, non-governmental organisation based in Accra, Ghana.

It was established in 1997 to defend and promote the rights and freedoms of the media. The Foundation pursues its objectives through activities that encourage collaboration with organisations and individuals working for the promotion of Media Rights and Freedom of Expression in West Africa. On May 20, 2026, the Media Foundation for West Africa organised a one-day digital literacy training workshop in Lomé, Togo, for 40 women journalists and activists, with coordination support from our national partner in Togo, L'Union des Journalistes Indépendants du Togo (UJIT).

Held at El Doria Hotel, the training forms part of the project, “Promoting Press Freedom and Women’s Digital Rights in Togo”, funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ghana. The project aims to empower women journalists and activists to safely navigate and effectively leverage digital spaces, while strengthening their use of digital tools to enhance the impact of their work.

The participants were taken through sessions on digital rights, social media and online privacy, women’s rights online in Togo, strategies for addressing online abuse and how to effectively use digital tools to enhance their work. The sessions were facilitated by Emmanuel Agbenonwossi, Digital Rights Expert and Innocente Gbekevi, Cybersecurity Expert.

The opening ceremony of the workshop was marked by the presence of representatives from the Ministry of Communication and the Ministry of Social Affairs, Gender, and Child Protection, to whom we extend our deepest gratitude for honoring our invitation.

Le 20 mai 2026, la Fondation des médias pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest a réuni 40 femmes journalistes et militantes à Lomé, au Togo, pour un atelier de formation d'une journée sur la littératie numérique, organisé avec l’appui opérationnel de notre partenaire national au Togo, l'Union des journalistes indépendants du Togo (UJIT).

Tenu à l'Hôtel El Doria, cet atelier s'inscrit dans le cadre du projet « Promouvoir la liberté de la presse et les droits numériques des femmes au Togo », financé par l'Ambassade du Royaume des Pays-Bas au Ghana. Ce projet vise à renforcer les capacités des femmes journalistes et militantes afin qu'elles puissent évoluer en toute sécurité dans les espaces numériques et les utiliser efficacement, tout en consolidant leur maîtrise des outils numériques pour accroître l'impact de leur travail.

Les participantes ont suivi des sessions portant sur les droits numériques, les réseaux sociaux et la protection de la vie privée en ligne, les droits des femmes dans l'espace numérique au Togo, les stratégies pour faire face aux violences en ligne, ainsi que l'utilisation efficace des outils numériques dans leur travail. Les sessions ont été animées par Emmanuel Agbenonwossi, expert en droits numériques, et Innocente Gbekevi, experte en cybersécurité.

La cérémonie d'ouverture a été marquée par la participation de représentants du Ministère de la Communication et du Ministère des Solidarités, du Genre et de la Protection de l'Enfance, auxquels la Fondation des médias pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest exprime sa profonde gratitude pour avoir honoré notre invitation.
