From 8 to 10 June 2026, WANEP joined an Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and African Union (AU) technical engagement at the ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria, to strengthen collaboration on early warning and conflict prevention.
As a strategic civil society partner in regional early warning systems, WANEP was represented by its Liaison Coordinators to ECOWAS and the AU.
The engagement focused on enhancing cooperation between the Continental Early Warning System (CEWS) and the ECOWAS Early Warning and Response Network (ECOWARN) through improved coordination, experience sharing and joint analysis.
The initiative builds on the AU–ECOWAS–WANEP Early Warning Desk-to-Desk Technical Meeting held in September 2025 and supports the implementation of a shared roadmap to strengthen collaboration, information sharing, and conflict prevention across West Africa.
Opening remarks highlighted the importance of stronger coordination, guided by the principles of subsidiarity and complementarity, to advance peace and security across the region.
