๐ŸŒŠ WWSCC Beach Clean-Up at Last Hour Beach, Takoradi ๐ŸŒฟ

On Saturday, 12th July 2025, Women in Water, Sanitation, and Climate (WWSC) successfully organized a vibrant community beach clean-up at Last Hour Beach in Takoradi. This initiative forms part of our continuous efforts to foster environmental sustainability, protect marine ecosystems, and raise public awareness about plastic pollution and responsible waste management.

With the collective support of dedicated volunteers, community leaders, and partners, we cleared a total of 315 kg of waste from the shoreline, including:
- 138 kg of plastic waste
- 126 kg of brown algae
- 51 kg of biodegradable waste

This impactful activity not only restored the beauty and health of this vital coastal area but also served as a learning platform, empowering participants with knowledge on the critical role of individual and collective action in climate change mitigation and the protection of water resources.

We express our heartfelt appreciation to our partners and supporters who made this event possible:

Together, we remain committed to championing clean water, clean environments, and climate resilience, one action at a time. ๐Ÿ’ง๐ŸŒ

๐ŸŒŠ World Oceans Day 2025: Sustaining What Sustains Us ๐ŸŒ

Did you know the ocean is the largest and most complex ecosystem on ?
Yet, itโ€™s also one of the most threatened. is more than just a date, itโ€™s a global call to action and a reminder that protecting our is a shared responsibility.

While World Oceans Day was officially marked on June 8, WOMEN IN WATER SANITATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE (WWSCC) joined the global movement with a beach clean-up activity held today June 14, 2025 at the LABADI BEACH HOTEL in Accra, a vital coastal area that supports biodiversity, tourism and local livelihoods but continues to face growing threats from plastic pollution.

In line with our mission to promote sustainable water, sanitation, and climate solutions, we teamed up with our committed partners Tullow Ghana, University of Ghana School of Law Ocean Governance Project, Sykes and Partners Limited and Ecozoil Limited, to carry out this impactful clean-up initiative.

Ahead of the beach clean-up activity, WWSCC joined Tullow Ghana in hosting a sensitization fair at Dzorwulu Junior High School, engaging students and locals on the importance of ocean protection and the dangers of plastic waste, because change begins with awareness.

โ™ป๏ธ From our clean-up exercise, we collected:
198 kg of plastics
21 kg of paper
145 kg of glass & metal cans
108 kg of biodegradable waste
These numbers are a reminder of the growing waste burden on our coastal environments, but also of the power of community action to reverse the trend.

๐ŸŒ According to UNESCO, around 10 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans annually. In Ghana, iconic beaches like Labadi Beach are under serious pressure, threatening marine life, biodiversity, and our climate resilience. As part of our commitment to sustainability, WWSCC plans to go a step further in the coming months by tackling pollution at the source through targeted interventions and upstream waste reduction strategies in our next wave of activities.

๐Ÿงผ From community-level engagement to environmental action, our efforts serve as a reminder that small steps lead to meaningful change. By cleaning our beaches and reducing plastic waste, we strengthen the resilience of our coastal ecosystems.

Letโ€™s continue working together, across communities, sectors, and generations, to protect our oceans and build a more sustainable future for all.
