April 5, 1933 – Ford Motor Company unveils the V8 engine

On this day, Ford Motor Company introduced its revolutionary flathead V8 engine in production vehicles. It was one of the first affordable V8 engines for the mass market and gave Ford a major competitive advantage in performance and sales. The engine was first available in the Model 18, and it played a major role in Ford's success throughout the 1930s and 1940s.

The V8 made Ford cars faster and more powerful, which even earned them a bit of a reputation among law enforcement and criminals during the Prohibition era.
