Last week at the United Way Africa Regional Conference, one voice grounded the entire room.

The Chief of Chorkor rose to speak, not with statistics or polished slides, but with truth. He took us back on a history trail of the Ga community in Chorkor, and to what life in his community looked like. A time when sanitation and hygiene challenges were not just issues, but daily realities both for children in school and people in their homes. Where access to safe, clean spaces was limited, and the health and dignity of families were constantly at risk.

You could feel it in his words, the weight of lived experience.

But then, his story shifted.

He spoke of the transformation sparked by the PRU Climate Action Project.
Of renewed hope.
Of visible change.
Of a community beginning to breathe differently.

And yet, his message did not end in celebration. It was a call.

A call to not stop here.
A call for sustained commitment, deeper investment, and continued partnership.
A reminder that real impact is not a moment; it is a journey.

His words lingered long after he left the stage:

โ€œWe have seen what is possible. Like Oliver Twist, all we can do is ask for more. Now, let us not lose momentum.โ€

This , we are reminded that behind every project are real people, real stories, and real expectations.

And our work continues, because communities like Chorkor are counting on it.

At the United Way Africa Regional Conference, there was a moment that stood still, not because of the agenda, but because of the heart in the room.

One after the other, our donor partners took the stage. Not just to speak, but to affirm, to commit, and to stand with communities across Ghana.

In their voices, you could hear more than strategy.
You could hear belief.
Belief in a future where every child has access to opportunity, where families can thrive, and where communities are not just supported, but empowered.

These were not just speeches.
They were promises.

Promises to continue investing in education.
Promises to strengthen livelihoods.
Promises to walk alongside communities, not as distant supporters, but as true partners in change.

And in those moments, it became clear:
impact is not built on funding alone, it is built on trust, consistency, and shared purpose.

This , we are reminded that generosity is not just about what we give, but why we give and how deeply we stay committed.

To our incredible donor partners - Prudential Life Insurance Ghana, PwC Ghana, Cummins Inc. Ghana, Ghana Stock Exchange, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC, Vivo Energy Ghana, P&G Alumni Foundation - thank you for choosing to stand with United Way Ghana. Thank you for showing that real impact comes from showing up, again and again.

Because of you, hope is not just an idea. It is alive in the communities we serve.

โ€œBe very intentional about people who are selected to join the board, and be strategic on who is elected to Chair the Board.โ€ โ€” Ms. Janet Butler

A powerful reflection from todayโ€™s ongoing session, as Ms. Butler drew from her extensive experience serving on various United Way Boards across Africa.

Her message was clear: strong governance is not accidental, it is deliberate.

The effectiveness of any Local United Way is deeply influenced by the quality, diversity, and strategic composition of its Board. From selecting the right members to appointing the right leadership, every decision shapes the direction, credibility, and growth potential of the organization.

As we continue Day 2 of the conference, this serves as a timely reminder that building impactful institutions starts with building strong, intentional leadership structures.

Still on reflections from our Day One engagements at

As part of the conference experience, we stepped beyond the sessions to witness impact firsthand with a visit to Ebenezer Senior High School, one of the project sites where community-focused interventions are making a real difference.

Seeing the outcomes on the ground reinforced the importance of translating strategy into action, and ideas into measurable impact.

The day also included a meaningful visit to our key partner, Cummins Inc. Ghana. This engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen our collaboration, deepen shared commitments, and explore pathways to ensure the sustainability of our projects.

Moments like these remind us that partnerships are at the heart of lasting change. As we continue the conference, we remain focused on building strong alliances that drive impact where it matters most.

Day One of the United Way Africa Regional Conference session left a strong impression, especially the simple yet powerful reminder from Mr. Phillipe Ayivor: โ€œFocus on the Brand.โ€

In the context of the conference, this goes beyond logos or visuals. It speaks to clarity of purpose, consistency in messaging, and the intentional way we show up as organizations committed to impact. Every interaction, every partnership, and every story we share contributes to how our brand is perceived.

A key reflection is that our brand is not just what we say, itโ€™s what people experience. As we continue engaging across sessions, itโ€™s a call to align our actions with our values, ensuring that the impact we create is not only felt but also clearly understood.

As the conference continues, the challenge is simple: stay focused, stay consistent, and let the brand speak through the work.

08/04/2026

This morning, we kicked off with great energy and anticipation as delegates from across the continent gathered, united by a shared vision of strengthening communities and advancing sustainable impact.

From the very first sessions, the atmosphere has been filled with insightful conversations, meaningful connections, and a renewed commitment to collaboration.

Hereโ€™s a glimpse of how it all began:
โœจ Engaging opening moments that set the tone for impactful discussions
โœจ Inspiring exchanges among changemakers and development leaders
โœจ Early sessions already sparking ideas that will shape the future of our work across Africa

As the conference unfolds over the next few days, we look forward to deeper conversations, innovative solutions, and stronger partnerships that will drive lasting change.
